Participant Voice & Empowerment VISTA, Transitions

This project is supervised by Transitions, which aims to end poverty for women and children in Spokane. Transitions operates six programs to support this mission, which provide housing, childcare, and job skills training to women and families experiencing poverty and homelessness. This project intends to create more opportunities for program participants to be engaged in the organization’s decision-making processes and become more empowered in their journeys out of poverty. Additionally, this project seeks to help program participants and alumni develop confidence in their ability to advocate for themselves and their children through those journeys. This position is in Spokane, in Eastern Washington, about 20 miles west of Idaho and 110 miles south of the Canadian border. Benefits include $575 biweekly living allowance. VISTA members who successfully complete the year receive their choice of either a Segal Education Award (valued at approximately $6,195) or an $1,800 cash stipend. AmeriCorps VISTA is the only AmeriCorps program where you can earn federal non-competitive eligibility, giving you an edge in the federal hiring process. All members in our program receive access to the CliftonStrengths assessment as a benefit of service and join a cohort of VISTA members throughout Spokane in professional and personal development opportunities. Additionally, the VISTA member placed at this project will receive mileage reimbursement or a bus pass, support in securing reduced-cost housing during service, and access to wellness and DEI personal development opportunities.
