Relive this chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan’s rise and near fall from power as The Philly POPS perform Nino Rota’s Oscar®-nominated score live to picture with The Godfather Live on September 29. This ten-time Academy Award® winning film features Marlon Brando as the Corleone family patriarch, accompanied by career-making performances from Al Pacino, James Caan, and Robert Duvall. Pack a picnic and join us for a concert experience you can’t refuse!

Fun Facts

• In 1972, composer Nino Rota received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score for his work on The Godfather, but it was subsequently revoked after it was revealed that part of the love theme had already been used in Rota's score for the 1958 Italian comedy film, Fortunatella.

•  Rota based the Main Theme (The Godfather Waltz) off the opening melody of Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 1.

•  Francis Ford Coppola's father, Carmine Coppola, created additional music for the film, particularly the music played by the band during the opening wedding scene.

•  According to Francis Ford Coppola, the film took 62 days to shoot from March 23, 1971 to May 24, 1971.

•  A young Sylvester Stallone auditioned for the roles of Paulie Gatto and Carlo Rizzi, but was not cast for either. He would get his big break in Rocky five years later.

•  No cannolis are mentioned in the novel or the shooting script. Francis Ford Coppola included this detail from his memories of the particular white boxes of cannolis that his father would bring home from work.

•  The cat held by Marlon Brando in the opening scene was a stray that Coppola found while on the lot at Paramount Pictures, and was not originally called for in the script. So content was the cat that its purring muffled some of Brando's dialogue and, as a result, most of his lines had to be looped.
