COVID-19 Faculty Resources

The new schedule of topics and details for interactions has been posted in the Support/Training area of the COVID-19 Faculty Resources site. You must be logged into the Blackboard site to access the full schedule document.

This week's highlights include:

  • Blackboard Office Hours sessions are available at various times throughout the week and are hosted by Dr. Jon P. McKamey. Drop in during any of those times to get help with specific Blackboard tools, troubleshooting, or any remote learning related topic. These times are not for full-blown training on any given topic or tool.
  • Remote Assistance from the Instructional Designer: Remote assistance for online course and Blackboard issues is also available via Zoom. Contact Dr. Jon P. McKamey, Instructional Designer for an appointment and Zoom room details.
  • Zoom Support for Faculty and Staff is facilitated by Paul D. DeNu from the Office of Online Learning. If you have any Zoom-related questions, you can email Paul DeNu for additional help. The one-on-one appointment will be held in a live Zoom session.
  • Instructors are encouraged to register for the Teaching Online for Cincinnati State (2021) workshop. It is open to anyone who would like to explore best practices in online learning, but is especially appropriate for all new instructors.
  • Other support is available by appointment by contacting Jon or Paul by email (click on their name to email from here).

Online Orientation Workshop

This Workshop is available to help students prepare for success in online courses at Cincinnati State, by providing hands-on experience in the online environment. The online workshop is free and self-paced. It takes 1 to 3 hours to complete, and students can stop and restart the orientation over several sessions. More information about the Workshop and how your students can register for it can be found here. Contact Paul DeNu for additional help.

Other Resources

Faculty can find a variety of resources related to Blackboard and online/remote delivery when logged onto MYCSTATE. Look for the following sites:

  • BUG: Blackboard Users Group
  • Faculty Lounge (moderated by Peggy Rolfsen, contact her to be added)

These sites also include direct links to instructor help pages available from Blackboard as well as other support and topics of interest.

Tips and Tricks

Are you currently recording your online lectures with Zoom? In the video below, Paul DeNu demonstrates how you can download your videos from the Zoom Cloud to your desktop, and then upload them to a video service such as YouTube. The College has a limited amount of cloud storage space for all of our instructors' videos.

We highly recommend downloading your videos from the cloud and uploading them to a video-hosting service such as YouTube, and then deleting your recording from the Zoom cloud to free up space. YouTube is available on all platforms and students are familiar with the interface. Most importantly, YouTube has auto-captioning (that you can edit), making your videos meet the required accessibility standard. Paul can walk you through how to edit the auto-captioning of your YouTube videos here.
