Hello Democrats and allies,
Before I talk about our meeting this week, I'm sure that many of you already saw that our "Democratic" Congressman, Kurt Schrader, cast the deciding vote against allowing the federal government to negotiate drug prices!?
I am not going to sugarcoat this: Kurt Schrader is trying to kill the absolutely critical Reconciliation Bill working it's way through congress. President Biden's Build Back Better agenda is the most important set of policies pushed by any President since at least Lyndon Johnson. It's not hard to see the historic analogue between those seeking to block this agenda and the Dixiecrats of Johnson's era...
Meanwhile, through his actions, Schrader is blocking any hope for real climate action and a just transition, protecting the giant pharmaceutical companies that fund his campaigns, sabotaging healthcare expansion during a pandemic, and threatening Biden's agenda and the Democrats' majority in the midterms. We cannot let him do this.
This is a line in the sand for me, and if Congressman Schrader votes against Reconciliation, or continues to sabotage it, I will do everything in my power to unseat him next year. If you feel the same, please take just a couple of minutes to call his D.C. office at (202) 225-5711, and respectfully let his staff know that you will help send him packing next year if he doesn't support Reconciliation.
I recently spoke at rallies at Schrader's offices in Salem and Oregon City, and Clackamas Indivisible is hosting another rally at his Oregon City office this Wednesday at 5pm (Facebook Link HERE). It's quite a drive for us, but you can at least help spread the word!

Please join us for our September meeting this next Wednesday, September 22nd, at 6pm. This meeting should be short and sweet, with some important and empowering action items. We'll be covering redistricting, how to support the Short-Term Rental ballot measure we've endorsed, and Schrader and the reconciliation bill! We may even have a special guest in Representative Janelle Bynum, who is a rising star within the Oregon Democratic Party!
