Dear Welby Way Families,
I have to begin by saying it has been my privilege to serve as President of POWW this last year and look forward to making next year even better! On behalf of POWW, I want to thank our entire school community for their support of our many programs and events for the students at Welby Way. It was so great to be back on campus this year! I have repeatedly witnessed what a special community we have here at Welby Way. Dozens of volunteers devoted hundreds of hours to make our events, programs, and activities a huge success.

I would love to personally acknowledge and thank some integral POWW members/volunteers and the chairs of our major events/activities, they were truly the backbone of this successful year.

  • Mira Felt, Annual Giving Campaign (AGC) & Volunteer Coordinator. AGC is our most important fundraising event of the year and Mira did a tremendous job creating a buzz and generating the majority of our funds this year.  She also did such an awesome job inspiring help and volunteers from our special group of Welby Way families which was vital to the success of this year. If you are interested in volunteering next year, please contact Mira at agc@parentsofwelbyway.com and asked to be added to our volunteer mailing list.
  • Leanne Santoyo, Halloween Movie Night & Yearbook. Halloween Movie Night was our first on-campus event since 2019, it was such a fun night and it felt great spending time with our amazing Welby Way community. Also, Leanne (along with the incredible yearbook committee) has spent the last 9 months designing and putting together this year’s yearbook, I can’t wait to see it!!
  • Jasmine Dowlatshahi, Fitness Week. Jasmine spent months planning and organizing all the amazing fitness week events and activities, the excitement and energy on campus during that week was extraordinary. I can’t wait to see what she puts together next year!
  • Ashley Rose, Social Media & Room Parent Coordinator. There is always so much going on at Welby, thank you Ashley for keeping all of us regularly up-to-date and informed. This is a busy and year-long assignment, so thank you for consistently being a reliable resource. (Also, if you aren’t already..make sure you are following us on Facebook and Instagram!)
  • Lena Moskovith, Book Fair. Lena (along with the awesome Book Fair Committee) put together one of the most successful Book Fairs we have ever had at Welby Way. The amount of time and energy that you put into this prosperous week did not go unnoticed. Thank you!
  • Yael Katzman, Kindness Week. Kindness Week was truly special this year, thank you so much for helping teach our children the power of positivity in such fun and creative ways. Thank you for filling our buckets!
  • Stephanie O’Hearn, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. Stephanie did such a tremendous job creating such a special week to celebrate our exceptional teachers and staff. Every day was full of treats and surprises, the feeling of admiration was palpable. I don’t know how you will be able to top this next year!
  • Jungleen Bae, The Buzz Newsletter. Thank you (and the entire Newsletter Committee) for all your hard work in putting this newsletter together. It is always a treat to see what you and the team put together each month!
In closing, for those of you moving on from Welby Way, I wish you all good luck on your next adventure. For the rest of you I look forward to seeing you next year and wish you all a fun and safe summer break!

With sincere gratitude,
Jill Basowski
POWW President

Teacher Appreciation Week

What better way to show our appreciation, than to pamper our wonderful Welby teachers and staff! We pulled out all the stops this year with gift bags, daily luncheons, customized door wraps, treats, massages and sound bath. We hope our teachers and staff feel loved and appreciated!

5th Grade Legacy Project

This year our 5th graders got involved in the community through the legacy project. This was a series of activities throughout the year where our kids were able to give back to the community they live in! We hoped that through these activities that we could begin to prepare the kids for a world in which they can be the change-makers.

First activity - Beach clean up at Malibu Beach. We learned about the accumulation of trash and how just picking up a few pieces of trash that we see at the beach can make a big difference.

Second activity - Hygiene kits for the homeless were created with a collection of items that all of Welby Way helped to gather. The 5th graders assembled almost 500 kits to be handed out in the community.

Third activity - Local hike and nature talk. We discussed what are the benefits of being in nature and how can we take care of our community and our world.
