All employees met their minimum training requirements in 2020

After the most unpredictable year, many sectors of Tennessee are beginning to find a new normal, although still guarded and with safety measures in place. Government and public service is no different.

“Due to COVID -19, the White County Sheriff’s Office suspended most in-person training to mitigate the risk of exposure,” White County Sheriff Steve Page said. “Several training opportunities were canceled throughout 2020, so we hope to double down in 2021.”

Page went on to say that his department and the officers who commit themselves to the service of the residents of White County had not let the limitations of the past year limit the way they ensured the safety of the community.

“We resumed in-house training for the corrections department, in September, with limited seating sessions,” Page explained. “Although cancellations and delays occurred, all employees met their minimum training requirements in 2020.”

Last month, four detectives with the White County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division completed Homicide Investigation Courses with the Southern Police Institute, at the University of Louisville. Additionally, two of the first-year detectives also completed their Tennessee Law Enforcement Academy Basic Investigation Course.

“We provide many types of equipment to our officers, but continued education is one of the most important tools,” Page said.
