UofL senior Giavanna Combs named 2021 Kentucky Derby Festival queen
The 147th Kentucky Derby is just weeks away and we now know who will reign as festival queen through the rest of the year.Giavanna (Gia) Combs, of Louisville, was named the 2021 Kentucky Derby Festival Queen Friday night during a special coronation ceremony at The Galt House.Combs is a 21-year-old senior at the University of Louisville, majoring in psychology with a minor in Pan-African studies. She is also the vice president of the Caring of New Students Experiencing College Transition peer mentoring program.In addition to working two jobs, Combs has also maintained a 4.0 GPA for her senior year.This year's royal court was also named:Hannah Maria Edelen of Springfield, Kentucky — an honors graduate of Northern Kentucky University and currently a graduate student at UK working on her master's in education and policyLeah Hazelwood of Lebanon, Kentucky — a junior at the University of Louisville dual majoring in political science and liberal studies with concentrations in race & gender studies, global public health and economicsMolly Jett of Louisville, Kentucky — a graduate of Bellarmine University and currently an on-air reporter for WMAZHannah Robb of Louisville, Kentucky – a senior at Bellarmine University studying business administration and marketing.The royal court are ambassadors for the Kentucky Derby Festival and are made up of young women from around the state. Combs is a 21-year-old senior at the University of Louisville, majoring in psychology with a minor in Pan-African studies. She is also the vice president of the Caring of New Students Experiencing College Transition peer mentoring program.
