The RGS-IBG Book Series publishes the very best of international academic scholarship, from across geography and cognate disciplines. Over 65 titles have been published with Wiley since 2001.

Reflecting the vibrant and diverse theoretical and empirical agendas that characterise contemporary geography, books in the series are expected to inform, challenge, and stimulate the reader. Overall, our book series seeks to promote scholarly publications that leave an intellectual mark and challenge the way readers think about particular issues, methods or theories.

In January 2024, the Society entered into a new publishing partnership with LSE Press, a fully open access publisher. By publishing all forthcoming titles fully open access, the Book Series aims to reach a broader audience and achieve greater impact for the published research.

The series is edited by Dr Ruth Craggs (King’s College London) and Prof. Margath Walker (University of Louisville). They are supported by an Editorial Advisory Board: Dr Majed Akhter (King’s College London), Dr Matej Blazek (Newcastle University), Dr Ayşegül Can (Istanbul Medeniyet University), Dr Kean Fan Lim (Newcastle University), Dr Jake Hodder (University of Nottingham), Prof. Alex Jeffrey (University of Cambridge), Dr Helen Pallett (University of East Anglia), Dr Kevon Rhiney (Rutgers University), and Prof. Stephen Rice (Loughborough University).

If you have an idea for a book, please get in touch with journals@rgs.org for guidance on putting together a proposal. Proposals should be submitted to journals@rgs.org. The editors can also be contacted to discuss your book ideas. Proposals will be considered by the Editorial Advisory Board before being sent out to review. The Board meets three times a year in March, June, and December. The deadlines for submitting a proposal to be considered are: 20 February, 30 May, and 20 November.

Books published with LSE Press will be subject to a Book Processing Charge (BPC) which we do not expect authors to cover personally. Many authors will be able to access funding through their institutions, or their funders e.g. in line with UKRI (and other funders’) policies. However, the Society and LSE Press are committed to ensuring equity and diversity in scholarly publishing and will jointly provide funding for additional titles where necessary (up to two per year).

The current book series formed out of two separate series: IBG Special Publications (1968-1997) and IBG Studies in Geography (1991-1994). See below for more information on these series.
