6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Event Details

The Little Mermaid (2023) movie, starring Halle Bailey, will be released in late May. With reaction on social media spanning joyful discovery by young girls seeing a character that “looks like me” to outrage by others who insist remaking the film with a Black actress in the leading role of Ariel is unacceptable, how important is representation in Hollywood when it comes to race and ethnicity, and what is the history behind the resistance? Join us for a panel discussion at Celebration Carousel (4289 Grand Haven Rd, Muskegon, MI 49441) with Quincy Isaiah, Muskegon-born actor who stars in the HBO Series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, along with Jazrielle Couran, local film producer. Moderator is Kerri VanderHoff, GVSU Film History and Theory faculty member. Registration required.
