Interested in adding a CS specialty endorsement to your certificate?
ESD 112 is preparing to offer an elementary computer science endorsement, and we need you! Join us in a flexible program that will be immediately useful in your classroom, and emerge with a portfolio proving your competence in teaching integrated computer science at the elementary level.
During the cohort, participants will work as a professional learning community to increase their background knowledge about computer science. They will learn how to integrate computer science and computational thinking principles and practices into existing coursework for their grade level.
Participants will receive:
- Access to online coursework specific to competencies of the Elementary Computer Science specialty endorsement
- A basic kit of computer science materials (pending availability)
- 15 free STEM clock hours
- Assistance with creating a portfolio showcasing competency in elementary computer science
- Upon successful completion and evaluation of the portfolio, participants will be recommended to receive the specialty endorsement
Participants will be asked to complete coursework, attend brief live Zoom sessions weekly, and give feedback on the coursework and structure of the cohort program.
The cohort is currently planned to run February 17--May 12, 2022, with portfolio completion to continue until June.
The ideal candidate for this cohort is an elementary teacher with a willingness to try new technologies as well as an interest in computer science, computational thinking, and coding. Complete beginners or teachers with some experience doing coding or programming in the classroom are both equally welcome to join. Teachers from rural or remote districts and/or populations typically underrepresented in computer science are encouraged to apply.
