Peru: Over 14,000 people immunized in Arequipa in national vaccination campaign

A total of 14,153 people were immunized in Arequipa region during the first National Vaccination Campaign, Arequipa Region's Immunizations Coordinator Elsa Quispe reported on Monday.


The figure far exceeded the goal set by health authorities in the context of the health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The health sector had set the goal to vaccinate 5,318 people during this first immunization campaign, in which 17 types of vaccines were administered free of charge to prevent up to 26 diseases, such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, chicken pox, polio, rotavirus, influenza, pneumococcus, measles, rubella , mumps, yellow fever, among others.

In total, 181 vaccination points were set up in Arequipa, where more than 14,000 people were immunized.

The campaign saw the participation of pregnant women, senior citizens, and minors, who were accompanied by their partners. They all observed the health protocols set for the occasion.

More than 2,800 elderly people were vaccinated this weekend.

"The campaign was carried out this weekend at 181 vaccination points, and 8,835 people more than expected have been immunized; our regional goal for this date was 5,318," Quispe explained.

During the first vaccination campaign, 5,559 children (aged 0 to 11 years), 735 teenagers (aged 12 to 17 years), 1,291 young people (aged 18 to 29 years), 3,684 adults (aged 30 to 59 years), and 2,884 elderly people (aged 60 years and above) have been immunized at the regional level.
