More than two dozen coronavirus cases have now been tied to the White House or people who spent time near President Trump before he announced on Oct. 2 that he and the first lady, Melania Trump, had tested positive. The size of the outbreak grew in the following days as more aides and their contacts tested positive, and earlier cases at the White House were revealed.

Several people who met with the president that week said they had since tested negative. But it can take days for someone who has been exposed to the virus to develop symptoms or to test positive. On Wednesday, Mrs. Trump revealed that Barron Trump, the president’s youngest son, had tested positive after initially testing negative, though she did not specify when.

Though many of the cases were reported in attendees of White House or Trump campaign events, the outbreak has extended beyond Mr. Trump’s inner circle to threaten several people who may not have had direct contact with him. Four deputies in the White House Press Office have tested positive, and at least three journalists have also tested positive after covering White House events. Four additional cases were identified among White House residence staff members who tested positive nearly three weeks ago.

Here is a look at where Mr. Trump traveled and the people with whom he met in the days before his positive test.

In addition to regular meetings and news conferences at the White House, Mr. Trump attended several large gatherings in the week before his positive test, including the first presidential debate in Cleveland and rallies in Pennsylvania and Minnesota. He went ahead with a round table and reception in New Jersey on Oct. 1 after a close aide, Hope Hicks, tested positive for the virus, and just hours before he announced his own positive result.

Thousands of supporters came to the rally near an airport hangar, and many were unmasked. Gov. Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania, a Democrat, said: “It is gravely concerning that the president would insist on holding this event with blatant disregard for social distancing and masking requirements.”
