As part of the Leading Ladies project, Cultural Arts Murfreesboro, a division of the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department, has created coloring pages and life-sized wooden cut-outs of Leading Ladies Annie Brawley Jackson, Myrtle Glanton Lord, and Sarah Childress Polk. Parks and Rec is also presenting occasional programming related to these women.

You can learn more about many of these women in the publication "In the Footsteps of Notable Women: A Self-Guided Tour of Rutherford County" and in the exhibit "From the Nation’s Capital to Neighborhood Classrooms: Rutherford County Women, Past and Present" sponsored by the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation, the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area, and the Heritage Center of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County. In addition, the Albert Gore Research Center at MTSU has oral histories and documentary collections associated with several of these women. Our histories of these women have also been enhanced by interviews with family members, friends, and others in the community who have shared their memories.
