CCSD Superintendent Jesus Jara makes a statement after a vote by the CCSD School Board of Trustees to terminate his contract passes at Clark County School District Education Center Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021.

Jesus Jara’s last day as superintendent of the Clark County School District will be Dec. 1, he said today in an email to staff.

Jara thanked the district’s 40,000 employees for their support over his three years as superintendent, the last year and a half of the ongoing global pandemic, and the last few days since the school board voted to terminate his contract.

“I pray that you remain focused on doing your work no matter who holds the title of superintendent,” he wrote. “It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as your coworker and the superintendent of CCSD. Never lose sight of the reasons you chose a career in education; putting kids first has been and always will be my driving force. Continue the important work of educating our kids, their future is our future, and their success will be our success.”

The school board voted 4-3 Thursday to terminate Jara’s contract “for convenience,” meaning it didn’t have to give a reason for the firing. His contract, which was renewed less than six months ago, was set to next expire Jan. 15, 2023.

The school board will begin discussing the process of appointing an interim superintendent on Thursday.
