Summary
Provides instruction for students that enables them to learn and demonstrate mastery of the Georgia Performance Standards
Essential Duties
- Prepares and plans for Japanese Level 1 through Japanese Level 5
- Vertical teams with FC Japanese Middle School feeder teacher
- Advocates on the importance of the Japanese language in a Global Economy and seeks to provide unique opportunities to study the Japanese language outside of the regular classroom setting
- Provides content-related and appropriate instruction based on Fulton County’s curriculum
- Provides classroom environment which promotes active learning in subject area
- Exhibits knowledge of performance-based instruction and assessment
- Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership
- Accounts for student attendance and punctuality
- Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures
- Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities
- Works collaboratively with other Fulton County Japanese teachers
- Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent
- Works with parents/guardians in all aspects of the student’s educational program
- Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
- Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction
- Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited university
Certification/Licensure
Must hold certification or permit in Japanese OR must meet eligibility requirements to obtain certification. Requirements: must have passed the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and Written Proficiency Test (WPT) at Advanced Low Proficiency
Will primarily consider fully certified Japanese teachers, but will consider those OPI and WPT exams
Experience Qualifications
0-1 year classroom experience required; High School teaching experience preferredÂ
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Currently Advanced Placement (AP) Certified or willing to pursue AP certification in Japanese
- Must be proficient in speaking and writing the Japanese language (Intermediate High Level proficiency or above preferred)
- Proven communication and instructional strategies
- Classroom management skills
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
- Excellent organizational skills

- Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance
- Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds
- May require stooping or crouching
