He frequently travels throughout the state and connects with donors via phone and email to answer questions and update individuals on happenings within Indiana Athletics. He also runs the Varsity Club’s Courtesy Car program.

A native of Terre Haute, Ind., Thompson is a former Hoosier (1986-1989) and 2003 inductee into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame. During his time on the field, Thompson was Indiana’s most valuable player in 1988 and 1989 and the Big Ten MVP during the same years. He was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and a two-time first team All-American. He finished eighth in Heisman Trophy balloting in 1988 and second in 1989, the highest finish ever for an IU football player. After his IU career concluded, he spent four years in the National Football League with the Los Angeles Rams and the Phoenix Cardinals and was inducted into the National College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. He also spent five years as an IU Football assistant coach before joining the Varsity Club staff in 2002.
