Employee Assistance Program

The university supports employees and their families through difficult times with personal, professional and family counseling at no cost through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

Appointments for non-emergency situations are generally scheduled during the day. With supervisor approval, employees can make appointments during work hours without being charged  sick or annual leave. If an employee does not want to disclose to the supervisor that s/he is accessing the Employee Assistance Program, appointments can also be scheduled outside of work hours, or employees can use accrued sick or annual leave to keep visits confidential. Leave accrual policies for Faculty and staff employees are in the Board Policies Board Policies 420.1 .  More information can be found about the Employee Assistance Program in the Staff Handbook section 8.9. To schedule an appointment, call 800-542-6021 or 479-973-9072.

The Employee Assistant Program is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergency situations. Call 800-542-6021 after hours, on weekends and during holidays.

Typically, most problems can be addressed by Employee Assistant Program staff. At times, assessment can indicate a need for services beyond what is available within the Employee Assistant Program. Employees who are referred to a community resource in a specialized area can incur cost, but counselors work closely with employees to provide a full range of referral options to meet personal needs within the  employee's financial means using university benefits when possible.

Graduate assistants can use the Employee Assistant Program at no cost. Students who are not in graduate assistant positions can receive mental health services from the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) program provided by the Pat Walker Health Center. Hourly employees and retirees can contact the Employee Assistance Program for community resource referrals.
