Rich Hill heads into his third season leading the University of Hawai‘i baseball program in 2024. The sixth-winningest active head coach in the NCAA, Hill heads into the 2024 season with a career record of 1,136-782-4 and 57-44 over his two seasons at UH. The 2023 season marked his 36th season coaching collegiate baseball and his 30th at the Division I level.
Hill became the third-ever head coach for the University of Hawai‘i baseball program on June 18, 2021, after guiding the University of San Diego for 23 seasons where he won multiple West Coast Conference titles and coached two National Players of the Year.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS (at UH)
- Has led Hawai‘i to its first two winning Big West seasons in each of his first two years.
- Guided the Rainbow Warriors to 29-20 overall record and a fifth-place finish in The Big West in 2023.
- The 2023 'Bows ended the season on a nine-game home winning streak.
- The UH pitching staff led the conference in ERA (4.23) in Big West games for the second straight year.
- Helped the Rainbow Warrior offense put up the best numbers by the program since joining The Big West in home runs (36), doubles (100), runs per game (6.3) and slugging (.416).
- Led the Rainbow Warriors to their best-ever finish in The Big West in his first year with the program in 2022, coming in third at 19-11 in conference play.
- The 19 conference wins were also the most by a Hawai‘i team in Big West play.
- Guided the team to a stretch of seven straight series victories from early April through late May in 2022.
- Hawai‘i jumped from finishing eighth in The Big West in 2021 to third in 2022, its biggest year-to-year improvement since joining the conference in 2013.
- Helped UH’s pitching staff lead the league in ERA (3.29) in conference play while the team’s 454 strikeouts on the year were the most by a Hawai‘i team since 2006.
PRIOR TO UH
- Guided the Toreros to nine NCAA Tournament appearances with a three-year streak (2006-08) and a pair of back-to-back appearances (2002-03; 2012-13).
- Won 1000th career game vs Gonzaga May 6, 2018.
- Recruited and mentored 93 former Toreros to MLB Draft selections or free agent contracts with 15 making it to The Show.
- Mentored Golden Spikes winner Kris Bryant, National Pitcher of the Year, Brian Matusz and has had 32 All-American or Freshman All-American selections in his 23 seasons at San Diego.
- In 2021, coached San Diego to a second-place finish in the WCC, with both an All-American and freshman All-American on the roster.
- Has had at least one All-American in 11 of the last 12 seasons and has had at least one All-American selection in 20 of his 23 seasons in San Diego.
- Won seven WCC Championships while with San Diego.
- Coached eight Toreros that were Team USA members since 2007 including himself as a coach with the 2015 U.S. Collegiate National Team which won series' over Cuba and Taiwan.
