Hello,
Has anyone had any issues submitting using the symbols </> - affecting aptt and leukocyte values (at least) ? We are receiving an "Invalid format" error for aptt and "Only numbers are allowed" for leukocyte values.

The dictionary states for aPTT and Leukocyte values:
If your EHR allows the capture and the extraction of “<” (less than) or “>” (greater than) sign for this lab, please report “<” (less than) or “>” (greater than) sign with the value as well. If your EHR does not capture this, you may simply report the numeric value. For example <0.1, should be reported as <0.1.

We are assuming we have to take out the symbols, but were wondering if anyone else has encountered a similar error before we go through the reformatting.

Thank you,
Renee

Our system doesn't have the </> symbols reported (or maybe I built my code to exclude them, I'm not entirely sure).  This sounds like an issue with the validation method of the portal, but I am unsure whether or not this can be corrected in time prior to submission.  How many cases does this effect?  If it is a small number, can we exclude these and place a helpdesk ticket with the number of cases, variable that is giving the error, etc.  If this is effecting greater than 1% of your cases to submit, it may be necessary to convert them to floats ( <0.1 to 0.1).  Can you enlighten us on how many cases this effects?

In our experience, this was due to spaces between the  symbols and numbers.   Removing the spaces resolved the issue.

Hello,
Thank you for your responses. After a little more investigating, we identified we had a negative value coming through, which it did not like. It turns out is was not the <> after all, it was the negatives. There were min values in our system as negative, these were corrected and the file went through.
Thank you again.
Renee

I am glad you were able to find what was causing the errors.  :-)
