Novice Teachers Critical Thinking Survey

Dear Fellow Teachers and Future Leaders,

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in participating in this study. I am Shomari Zachary, a doctoral student at Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, completing my final requirement for the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction. I am currently working on my dissertation entitled READY OR NOT: A QUALITATIVE STUDY INVESTIGATING TEACHER READINESS TO IMPLEMENT CRITICAL THINKING. Dr. Susan Langston is my advisor who serves as the Doctoral Studies Department Chair and professor in the Education Department at Evangel University. My study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board of Evangel University.

Purpose of Study

The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions, preparation, and practices of pre-service and novice teachers within teacher prep programs and school districts to examine teacher readiness and barriers that prevent the implementation of critical thinking.

Participation

You are being asked to complete an online survey designed to capture demographic information and your perceptions and experiences with critical thinking as a former student teacher and current teacher. The survey consists of 5 demographic questions, 10 Likert scale questions, and 4 open ended questions and should take 10-15 minutes to complete. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw or decline to answer any question posed in the survey. All data gathered will be kept confidential and secured through a protected Google account where documents will be stored. Surveys will be coded and connected to a pseudonym to protect and safeguard your identity. Research materials will be kept for three years following the completion of this research study.

The researcher may request a follow-up interview. If interested in being interviewed for this study, please indicate your response on the Google form and fill in your name and email for contact purposes only. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted to set up a date and time that can be agreed upon.

Please note that the completion of this survey will result in your responses being included in this study and serves as your consent to participate.
