Background: On June 15, 2022, LAUSD presented the Cultural Arts Passport Plan as part of the 100-day report. Lausd's Cultural Arts Passport program is an innovative educational initiative designed to provide students in grades K-12 with a variety of cultural experiences
In partnership with Southern California's finest cultural organizations and venues, this program ensures equal access to arts and culture for every child, many of whom would not otherwise have this breadth of opportunities. The CAP provides opportunities for Students to engage in experiential learning with different cultural institutions throughout the diverse Los Angeles commuinty. According to a study from the University of Arkansas, "...enriching field trips contribute to the development of students.... who posess more knowledge about art, have stronger critical-thinking skills, exhibit increased historical empathy, display higher levels of telerance, and have a greater taste for consuming art and culture."
Mission: Ms. Kortkamp must write and submit a CAP Plan in order to spend the CAP funds allocated to Maywood Academy High School. The fund has very specific restrictions and guidelines that we must follow. Most of the field trips that we traditionally take may not be funded through CAP funds. It must be to support "extended learning" outside of the regular school hours. We would like to know your availibility and participation capacity as well as your suggestions and ideas.
Our plan will be turned in soon, so please give us your suggestions by 3:30 PM on Wed. Feb. 29th.
