Robert Martin’s education and experience in wildlife biology, farming, & ranching give him a diverse understanding of land management – from wildlife habitat improvements to holistic livestock grazing. With his experience working at the nation’s largest land trust, Robert understands conservation easements and their tax incentives. Robert is driven by his love for the wildlife, landscape, and people of the southern Rocky Mountains. His passion for the outdoors and his character are evident in how he conducts his real estate business. Robert lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and is licensed in New Mexico and Colorado.
Robert grew up on the family farm in Curry County, New Mexico, and has deep roots in the state. His paternal great-grandparents were homesteaders, and his maternal great-grandfather and grandfather founded and operated the Clovis Horse Auction for 50 years.
Robert earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from Texas Tech University. After a brief stint in the oil and gas industry, he returned home and managed the family farm for 15 years. After selling the farm in 2000, Robert returned to university, earning a master’s degree in biology from Eastern New Mexico University.
After working as a wildlife biologist on research projects and teaching high school science, Robert joined The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as a Stewardship Ecologist in 2008. His work included land stewardship, conservation easements, wildlife education, wetland restoration, government programs, energy issues, and landowner outreach.
In 2014, Robert left TNC to start Walker & Martin Ranch Sales with his partner, Greg Walker. After a successful seven years, the pair joined Fay Ranches in order to better serve their clients with the best marketing platform in the industry.
For most of his adult life, Robert has invested in real estate - residential, multi-family, and farm and ranch. He has been an active member of the Realtor’s Land Institute since 2014. Robert has been co-owner of a combination cattle/recreational ranch along the Pecos River in New Mexico since 2004.
