How to make resume robots happy

Companies rely on applicant tracking systems to sort through the flood of resumes they receive for open positions. While there are hundreds of these systems, there are some best practices job seekers can follow to increase the odds that their information will be entered correctly, said Virginia Franco, an executive storyteller and resume writer, on the latest #GetHired Live. For example, converting your resume to a plain text format will show you what the system will likely see when it ingests your application. Additionally, she says:


  • Don’t put information in headers or footers
  • Don’t include information in text boxes
