Shreveport OMV Moving To New Location at Financial Plaza

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is relocating its existing Shreveport field office on Normandie Drive to a new location on Financial Plaza, near I-20 and Pines Road. The new location at 6005 Financial Plaza will open for business at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024. A grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will follow at 10 a.m.

The new Shreveport OMV office is located less than one mile west of the I-20/I-220 split. The entrance on Rasberry Lane is across from the Westwood Village apartment complex. The design of the new field office will allow OMV field office staff to operate more efficiently and provide customers with a more convenient experience.

The Financial Plaza office will offer the same services as the Normandie Drive location including: commercial driver’s license (CDL) testing, CDL issuance and renewal, road skills and knowledge tests, driver’s license and ID card issuance and renewals, REAL ID, reinstatement of driving privileges, and vehicle registration issuance and renewal.

The current OMV Shreveport field office will be closed on Thursday, March 7, and Friday, March 8, as staff and equipment are migrated to the new office. Customers may schedule an appointment at www.expresslane.org. Customers planning to book an appointment or visit any OMV location are encouraged to check the status of their driver’s license first at www.expresslane.org. Customers with appointments scheduled will be assisted at their reserved time. Walk-in guests are accepted as time permits but may experience wait times.

Registration and Renewal Fees Waived For Certain Military Honor License Plates

February 26, 2024

Act 174 of the 2023 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature authorizes the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles to issue the following military honor license plates at no cost and waive renewal registration requirements to applicable plates; World War II, Korean War, Vietnamese Conflict, and Laos War. Current owners of these license plates will receive a permanent vehicle registration sticker via mail.

Members of the armed services of the United States applying for these plates for the first time must present a copy of their active duty discharge orders or proof of retirement from active service with one of the armed forces of the United States from World War II, Korean War, Vietnamese Conflict, and Laos War.

Residents can visit www.expresslane.org to view more information regarding vehicle registration and a complete list of specialty license plates available.

Buras OMV to Reopen at Port Sulphur Location

The Buras OMV location will reopen at a new site on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Guests can visit the new office at 27279 Highway 23, Port Sulphur, LA 70083. The office is open on the second Wednesday of each month from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Residents can view a complete list of services provided at the Buras/Port Sulphur field office by clicking on the “Open Offices” icon at expresslane.org.

Residents are encouraged to utilize OMV’s online services when possible. Online services found at www.expresslane.org include vehicle registration renewal, duplicate registration requests, official driving record requests, driver’s license and ID card renewals, duplicate driver’s license and ID requests and a REAL ID checklist.

Louisiana OMV Announces Vehicle Registration Feature on LA Wallet App

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles and Envoc, the software development company that designed and developed LA Wallet, announce the addition of vehicle registration to Louisiana’s legal digital driver license app. More than one million registered vehicles are now available to be added to LA Wallet accounts. In this initial launch, only valid vehicle registrations that match the driver’s license number, first name and last name are eligible to connect in the app.
 
“This is an exciting time for the citizens of Louisiana as OMV and LA Wallet continue to be pioneers in the mobile driver’s license arena,” said Staci Forbes, OMV Deputy Commissioner. “We are pleased to release this new, widely requested feature.”

Autism and Needs Accommodation Vehicle Decals Now Available

Eligible Louisiana residents and their guardians can now request an “Autism Spectrum Disorder” or a “Needs Accommodation” indicator for their vehicle at no cost. These decals, which are placed on the rear window of a vehicle, indicate to law enforcement officers that a person in the vehicle may have Autism Spectrum Disorder or a mental, physical, or developmental disability. These indicators are also placed on the vehicle record and vehicle registration.

Proper documentation is necessary to acquire and replace a decal. One of the following is required to obtain an Autism Spectrum Disorder decal or a Needs Accommodation decal:

·       A statement from a qualified medical or mental health professional licensed in Louisiana or any other state or territory of the United States verifying the applicant’s diagnosis.
·       If the applicant possesses a current Louisiana driver’s license or identification card with the Autism or Needs Accommodation indicator, no other documentation is required.

The applicant may request to have the indicator removed at any time, without documentation. If either decal is lost, the applicant may go into any Louisiana OMV field office or public tag agent location and request a new decal. Proof of the Autism or Needs Accommodation flag on the registration or vehicle record is required for a replacement decal. Eligible residents can also request an Autism indicator on their driver’s license or identification card. The Autism indicator will display on a driver’s license or ID card in the LA Wallet app.

Online License Renewal Error Resolved

If you recently received a driver’s license renewal invitation in the mail but could not renew at www.expresslane.org, please try again. The system error was resolved and eligible residents with an October renewal date can now process transactions online. We apologize for the inconvenience. Eligible residents can renew their license or ID card online at www.expresslane.org up to 90 days prior to expiration.

It can take up to 30 days for a customer to receive a credential. If the credential is not received 30 days from the date of application, the customer must visit a field office within 60 days of application to be eligible for a replacement credential at no charge. If your address is different from what appears on the face of your license, you are not eligible for an Internet or mail-in renewal. Louisiana law requires your current address to appear on the face of your license. You must visit an office to renew.

OMV Urges Residents to Prepare for REAL ID Enforcement Date

The REAL ID enforcement date is approaching and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is encouraging residents to prepare now. Beginning on May 7, 2025, the only state-issued driver's licenses and identification cards federal agencies will accept for official purposes are those that meet REAL ID standards. OMV is urging all residents to consider a REAL ID compliant credential when renewing their license or identification card. Residents who are not eligible for renewal can upgrade by applying for a duplicate license or identification card that is REAL ID compliant. 

“All Louisiana residents should review the REAL ID requirements and plan accordingly. Do not wait until the last minute. Now is the time to prepare for the May 2025 enforcement date,” stated OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain. A Louisiana REAL ID compliant driver’s license or identification card will display a gold circle with a star cutout in the top right corner.
 
Licenses and identification cards that do not meet REAL ID standards will not be accepted for use as identification with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at airport security checkpoints. A valid passport or another acceptable form of federal identification will also be accepted to board domestic flights, access certain federal buildings, military bases and enter nuclear power plants. Residents who need access to a federal facility that requires identification for entry should consult the policy of the agency operating the relevant facility.

Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles Addresses a Data Security Incident

[Press Release] 
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services, Office of Motor Vehicle (“OMV”) responded to a data security incident that involved personal information of individuals who applied for, and/or were issued a Louisiana driver’s license, identification card, and/ or vehicle registration. This notice explains the incident, the measures that have been taken, and some steps you can take in response.
 
On May 31, 2023, Progress Software Corporation, which developed and supports the MOVEit managed file transfer platform, notified all customers across the globe, including OMV, of a zero-day vulnerability that an unauthorized party used to access and acquire data without authorization. Upon learning of the incident, immediate measures were taken to secure the MOVEIt environment utilized to transfer files. A thorough investigation was conducted, and it was determined that there was unauthorized acquisition of, and access to, OMV files in the MOVEIt environment.
 
Through a thorough analysis, OMV determined that files involved in the incident contained the personal information of individuals who applied for and/or were issued a Louisiana driver’s license, identification card, and/or vehicle registration. The information varied by individual but included name and one or more of the following: address, date of birth, Social Security number, driver’s license, learner’s permit, or identification card number, height, eye color, vehicle registration information, and handicap placard information.
 
OMV is emailing notices to individuals whose information was involved in the incident and for whom OMV was able to locate an email address. In addition, OMV established a dedicated, toll-free call center to answer questions that individuals may have and is offering twelve (12) months of free credit monitoring and identify theft protection from LifeLock to involved Louisiana residents. Major Cyber Attack at OMV Vendor, Louisianans Should Act Urgently to Protect Their Identities

BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana’s Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is one of a still undetermined number of government entities, major businesses and organizations to be affected by the unprecedented MOVEit data breach.

MOVEit is an industry-leading third party data transfer service used to send large files. It is widely used across the country and around the world, and reports are rapidly emerging of newly discovered exposures of sensitive data in this major international cyber attack.

There is no indication at this time that cyber attackers who breached MOVEit have sold, used, shared or released the OMV data obtained from the MOVEit attack. The cyber attackers have not contacted state government. But all Louisianans should take immediate steps to safeguard their identity. 

OMV believes that all Louisianans with a state-issued driver’s license, ID, or car registration have likely had the following data exposed to the cyber attackers:

  1. Name 
  2. Address 
  3. Social Security Number 
  4. Birthdate 
  5. Height 
  6. Eye Color 
  7. Driver’s License Number 
  8. Vehicle Registration Information 
  9. Handicap Placard Information 
Gov. John Bel Edwards met with the Unified Command Group at 11 a.m. Thursday to be briefed on the incident, where he instructed the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP), Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV), Louisiana State Police (LSP), and the Office of Technology Services (OTS) to act to inform Louisianans of the breach and their best next steps as soon as possible.

We recommend all Louisianans take the following steps immediately: 

1. Prevent Unauthorized New Account Openings or Loans and Monitor Your Credit 

Individuals can freeze and unfreeze their credit for free, which stops others from opening new accounts and borrowing money in your name. Freezing your credit does not prevent the use of any existing credit cards or bank accounts. Freezing your credit may be done quickly online or by contacting the three major credit bureaus by phone:

Utilize multi-factor authentication when able. Learn more about password protection at www.CISA.gov.

3. Protect Your Tax Refund and Returns with the Internal Revenue Service

To prevent someone else from filing returns or receiving your federal tax refund, request an “Identity Protection Pin” from the Internal Revenue Service by signing up at: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin or calling the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. 

4. Check your Social Security Benefits

All individuals who are eligible, applied for, and/or are receiving social security benefits (including disability), please consider registering for a ssa.gov account at https://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/ to stop others from stealing your benefits. If you suspect Social Security fraud, call the Office of Inspector General hotline at 1-800-269-0271, Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 or file a complaint online at oig.ssa.gov.

5. Report Suspected Identity Theft

If you suspect any abnormal activity involving your data, including financial information, contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP or visit www.ReportFraud.FTC.gov immediately.

Installment Plan Update

Effective March 10, 2023, customers who previously defaulted on an installment plan will be required to make an initial payment of 25% to restart a new installment plan. The remaining balance will be divided up into monthly payments. 

The first payment will be taken the day you enter into an installment plan. The payment method provided for the first payment will be used for all remaining payments unless updated through the customer portal. After the first payment, the next payment will be drafted on the 10th of the following month, unless 30 days from the first payment have not passed. If 30 days have not passed the payment will not be drafted until the following month.
 
Example: 
·         If a plan is entered on 3/04/23. The next payment will be drafted on 4/10/23. 
·         If a plan is entered on 03/15/23. The next payment will be drafted on 5/10/23.

If you default on an installment plan for any reason, your debt will be referred to the Office of Debt Recovery (ODR), your fees will increase, your license will be suspended, and any unsatisfied items included in the plan will be returned to the previous status if you do not do either of the following within 60 days:
  • Pay the remaining balance of the installment plan; or
  • Enter into a new installment plan by making an initial payment of 25% of the new installment plan amount and the remaining balance will be divided up into monthly payments.

Autism Indicator Now Available on Louisiana Identification Cards

Eligible Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles customers can now request to have an “Autism” indicator added to their identification cards. Qualified applicants include any person diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder by a qualified medical or mental health professional. The autism indicator will appear under the customer’s picture on the ID card.

The autism indicator is optional and can be removed from a credential at any time, as requested by the applicant. The “Autism” designation can be displayed on any class identification card, including the TIP, but may not be placed on Class H (Handicap Identification Card) credentials. Applicable fees are required for identification card processing if adding or removing the Autism indicator.

Applicants must provide one of the following documents to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles in order to have the designation added to an ID card:

• Medical Examiner’s Certification of Autism Spectrum Disorder form completed by the medical or mental health professional
• A statement from a qualified mental health professional licensed in Louisiana or any other state or territory of the United States verifying the applicant’s disability.

An ID card with an Autism indicator cannot include the “Veteran,” “I’m a Cajun” or “100% DAV” indicators. The Autism indicator can only be combined with the “Needs Accommodation” indicator. If the driver’s license indicates “Autism,” but not “Needs Accommodation,” a puzzle piece symbol will appear on the license with the autism designation below the picture. If the driver’s license indicates both “Autism” and “Needs Accommodation,” the autism designation will appear below the picture in addition to “AN” above the picture.

LA Wallet users can display the Autism indicator on their ID Card in the LA Wallet app. If an applicable card is currently linked in LA Wallet, simply unlink it in the menu and add it back to get the updated image.

REAL ID Deadline Extended

⭐️REAL ID Deadline Extended to May 7, 2025⭐️

❗️The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the REAL ID full enforcement deadline from May 3, 2023, to May 7, 2025.

🗓Beginning May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or identification card, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another TSA-acceptable form of identification at airport security checkpoints for domestic air travel.

Louisiana OMV Offers Storm Preparedness Tips, Encourages Early Renewals

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is reminding eligible residents to renew their driver’s licenses, identification cards and vehicle registrations before a storm hits. Tropical storms and hurricanes can cause widespread damage and valid, unexpired credentials may be required for housing, food and other vital disaster recovery assistance elements. Additionally, be sure to remember important documents in your hurricane preparations. Certificates of title, vehicle insurance, passports and birth certificates should be stored in waterproof containers, in easily accessible locations in the case of emergency.

  • Eligible residents can renew credentials at expresslane.org up to 90 days prior to expiration.
  • Eligible residents can renew credentials on the LA Wallet app up to 90 days prior to expiration.
  • Eligible residents can renew credentials at an OMV field office up to 180 days prior to expiration.
  • Eligible residents can renew credentials at Public Tag Agent locations up to 180 days prior to expiration.
  • Customers can renew their vehicle registration at expresslane.org up to 60 days prior to expiration.
  • Renewing early DOES NOT shorten the expiration date for the next renewal (six years).
An applicant is not eligible to renew by mail or internet if:

  • The license was renewed by mail or internet on the previous renewal.
  • The license is expired 12 months or more, was cancelled for any reason, or was lost by the applicant.
  • The applicant is seventy years or older prior to 100 days of the date of expiration of the driver's license.
  •  The license is suspended, pending suspension, or has a flag.
Residents can check their driver’s license for flags, blocks, suspensions or disqualifications at expresslane.org. Reinstatement services cannot be processed at Louisiana OMV field offices and can only be processed in the following ways:

Louisiana OMV Alerts CDL and CLP Customers to Verify Medical Certificates

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is advising commercial driver’s license (CDL) and commercial learner’s permit (CLP) customers to verify their medical certificate status. The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will begin sending cancellation notices to CDL and CLP drivers who have an expired medical certificate on Monday, June 13, 2022. The notice will inform the driver they have 30 days from the date of notification to submit an unexpired medical certificate to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles or their commercial driving privileges will be canceled.  
 
Customers can submit their medical examiner certificate to the Office of Motor Vehicles in the following ways: 
 
1. Email: OMV_CDL_Medical@dps.la.gov 
2. Fax: 225-925-3901 
3. Mail: Office of Motor Vehicles, P.O. Box 64886, Baton Rouge, LA 70896 
 
CDL and CLP holders can confirm their medical status at www.expresslane.org. Commercial drivers must have a current medical certification or variance in their possession at all times while operating a commercial motor vehicle.

LDWF, OMV Resume Partnership to Make Boat Trailer Registration More Convenient

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) will resume a partnership that will allow customers to register their boats and trailers at one location.

Beginning June 13, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) will have a representative at LDWF headquarters at 2000 Quail Drive in Baton Rouge every Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist with boat trailer registrations. Customers will be able complete the registration process without having to go to both agencies.

"Customer service is a priority for our agency," said LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet. "We hope that this partnership with the Office of Motor Vehicles will help streamline the boat and trailer registration process and create a more convenient process for our customers."

OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain stated, "We’re excited to reunite with LDWF and provide an additional service option for our customers. We continuously look for innovative ways to improve operations and assist our residents. This collaboration will benefit everyone involved.”

LDWF reminds customers that the Louisiana Department of Revenue has a representative available on Mondays at LDWF headquarters to process tax payments for customers registering boats. This addition of the Office of Motor Vehicles will create a one-stop shop every Monday for new and used boat owners.

Congress passed the Real ID Act in 2005 to establish minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and ID cards following a recommendation from the 9/11 Commission. For a complete list of REAL ID compliant identifications visit dhs.gov/real-id. Following May 3, 2023, passengers may still use a passport to board federal flights if they have not yet updated to a state-issued REAL ID driver’s license or identification card. TSA accepts several other forms of identity documents other than a passport. OMV Extends Call Center Hours for Reinstatement Services

The Louisiana OMV Call Center will remain open until 6:30 p.m. on weeknights, until further notice. Due to a high volume of customers seeking driver’s license reinstatement services, the OMV Call Center is now open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Customers can reach an OMV agent by dialing (225) 925-6146 and selecting option three. The extended hours from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. are reserved for driver’s license reinstatement services only. All other call center services are available during normal business hours only. Driver’s license reinstatement transactions are not available at OMV field offices.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles can process reinstatements in the following ways:

1.     Phone: OMV Call Center - (225) 925-6146 (Option 3). 

2.     Mail: Office of Motor Vehicles, P.O. Box 64886, Baton Rouge, LA 70896

3.     Public Tag Agent (PTA): PTAs can perform limited reinstatement transactions.

Louisiana OMV Transitions to 6-year Identification Cards

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is now issuing 6-year identification cards and will no longer offer the 4-year identification card option. 

Qualified citizens can renew their ID cards online here. Applicants can also renew at a local OMV field office or Public Tag Agent location. Please be aware that many OMV field offices are open by appointment only. Customers can schedule an appointment here.

Residents 15-years-old and younger remain eligible for either the 2-year or 6-year ID card options. Residents 16 years of age and older will be issued a 6-year ID card.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is excited to announce the newest addition to its online service portal. Citizens can now check the validity of a vehicle title by utilizing the “Title Verification” service on the OMV website, www.expresslane.org. Title verification can be processed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

The service is ideal for residents or car dealers seeking to confirm a Louisiana title is valid. Before the implementation of this online service, all requests for title verifications were processed manually. Now, customers can verify titles online, within seconds, in a safe and secure manner.

“This new online service option eliminates potential fraudulent title activity and saves guests a trip to an OMV field office,” stated Commissioner Karen St. Germain. “We remain committed to serving our guests in innovative ways by providing valuable online options and giving exemplary customer service.”

Title verification reports the validity of a current Louisiana title and does not alter or transfer a vehicle title in any way. This service cannot be used to look up title history information and will not provide any sensitive information. Guests will need to provide the following information:

•           Title Number
•           Title Date
•           Last Six Digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Citizens are encouraged to check expresslane.org for online services before booking an appointment or visiting a field office. Other online services found at expresslane.org include vehicle registration renewal, duplicate registration request, official driving record request, driver’s license and ID card renewals, a Real ID checklist and more.

Louisiana OMV Urges Motorists to Help Combat Human Trafficking
The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is partnering with federal and state agencies to educate motorists on recognizing the signs of human trafficking and how to respond to possible cases. OMV’s human trafficking awareness campaign features billboards across high-trafficked roadways in Baton Rouge, Covington, Hammond, New Orleans, Shreveport and Slidell. The agency also will run informative commercials at gas station pump TVs urging drivers to utilize the anonymous and confidential National Human Trafficking Hotline at (888) 373-7888. Drivers can also text HELP or INFO to BEFREE (233733) if they suspect human trafficking. Posters, informational brochures, window decals and wallet cards will also be available to guests at select OMV field office locations. 

“We are urging Louisiana drivers and all visitors traveling in our state to be aware of the indicators of human trafficking. There is no place in our world for this type of behavior and everyone plays an integral role,” stated OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain. “If you suspect, speak! I am grateful for our federal partners, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association, and state leaders like First Lady Donna Edwards who have been instrumental in their efforts to eliminate human trafficking.”

Motorists are the eyes and ears of Louisiana’s highways. All drivers should be aware of the signs of human trafficking. If you suspect human trafficking, remember as many details as possible and never approach traffickers. If you see a crime in progress, call 911 first. Then, call or text the trafficking hotline. Over 700 cases of human trafficking were reported in Louisiana in 2020. Victims can be of any age, race, gender or nationality. 

Some questions to ask when considering whether someone may need help:

·       Does the potential victim look fearful?
·       Do they appear to be accompanied by a controlling individual?
·       Are they restricted from speaking for themselves?  
·       Do they have “branding” tattoos?
·       Do they avoid making eye contact?

Bossier City OMV Branch Set to Reopen at New Location

The Bossier City Office of Motor Vehicles location will reopen at a new site on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Guests can visit the new Bossier City office at 5050 Industrial Drive Extension Suite 600, Bossier City, Louisiana 71112. Louisiana OMV Reinstatement Call Center to Resume Normal Business Hours

Beginning Monday, January 3, 2022, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) call center will resume normal business hours for customers seeking driver’s license reinstatement services. Reinstatement services through the OMV call center are available by phone, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., by dialing (225) 925-6146 and selecting option three. The extended hours for reinstatement from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. are no longer available. Driver’s license reinstatement transactions cannot be processed at OMV field offices.

Reinstatement can only be processed in the following ways:

Autism Indicator Now Available on Louisiana Driver’s Licenses

Eligible Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles customers can now request to have an “Autism” indicator added to their driver’s license. Qualified applicants include any person diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder by a qualified medical or mental health professional. The autism indicator will appear under the customer’s picture on the license.

The autism indicator is optional and can be removed from a credential at any time, as requested by the applicant. The “Autism” designation can be displayed on any class driver’s license, including the TIP, but may not be placed on Class I (Identification Card) or Class H (Handicap Identification Card) credentials. Applicable fees are required for driver’s license processing if adding or removing the Autism indicator.

Applicants must provide one of the following documents to the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles in order to have the designation added:

• Medical Examiner’s Certification of Autism Spectrum Disorder form completed by the medical or mental health professional 
• A statement from a qualified mental health professional licensed in Louisiana or any other state or territory of the United States verifying the applicant’s disability.

A driver’s license with an Autism indicator cannot include the “Veteran,” “I’m a Cajun” or “100% DAV” indicators. The Autism indicator can only be combined with the “Needs Accommodation” indicator. If the driver’s license indicates “Autism,” but not “Needs Accommodation,” a puzzle piece symbol will appear on the license with the autism designation below the picture. If the driver’s license indicates both “Autism” and “Needs Accommodation,” the autism designation will appear below the picture in addition to “AN” above the picture.
 
LA Wallet users can display the Autism indicator on their license in the LA Wallet app. If an applicable license is currently linked in LA Wallet, simply unlink the license in the menu and add it back to get the updated image.

Louisiana OMV Implements New Interpreting Service at Field Offices

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) and LanguageLine Solutions have partnered to offer a free, on-demand, language interpretation service to non-English and limited English speaking customers. LanguageLine phone interpreting services quickly connects OMV visitors with a highly trained interpreter within seconds. Interpretation services are available in over 240 languages at all OMV field offices. 

 “This is a vital service that empowers our guests and allows our agency to continue providing the highest level of customer service in an innovative fashion,” stated OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain. “This new, exciting service is fast, reliable and secure.”

Visitors can verbally notify the OMV employee of their preferred language, or select it on the provided language ID card. Louisiana OMV employees will then connect the guest to an interpreter via a dual handset phone. During the call, the interpreter will assist the customer to ensure clear, concise and effective communication between all parties while OMV employees process their requested motor vehicle service.

Customers with appointments are encouraged to note a need for interpretation when booking their time slot. To view a complete list of OMV offices, click here. LanguageLine services are not available to customers who visit an OMV field office for testing purposes. If a testing applicant does not have a good understanding of the written English language, they may bring a translator to assist with any class knowledge test, excluding CDL.

Louisiana OMV Updates Safety Protocols Amid COVID-19 Surge

To help stop the spread of COVID-19, facial coverings will be required inside all Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles locations beginning Monday, July 26, 2021. The updated safety protocols follow the increasing    COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations throughout Louisiana and reflect the latest guidelines from state health officials. If a customer does not have a mask, one will be provided.

“Public safety is our priority. We must take the necessary precautions to protect the health of our customers and employees,” OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain stated. In addition to wearing masks, visitors are reminded to follow social distancing guidelines and stay at least six feet from other people while inside OMV field offices.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is reminding customers to utilize the free LA Wallet app when possible. LA Wallet allows eligible customers to request a duplicate driver’s license and renew their current driver’s license. Additionally, customers are encouraged to check www.expresslane.org to find out if they can complete their transaction online before visiting an OMV field office.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles continues to work closely with state officials to provide a safe environment for all visitors. The agency appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding at this time.

Louisiana OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain issued the following statement in response to the recent COVID-19 surge across Louisiana.

“Several Louisiana OMV locations have experienced intermittent closures over the past few months due to precautions related to COVID-19. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. When possible, we shift resources around to where they are needed in an effort to keep our offices open. Unfortunately, sometimes we are forced to close temporarily to protect the health of our customers and employees.

"The fourth surge of COVID-19 is upon us. We cannot let our guard down. Though they are not required at this time, we encourage OMV customers to wear masks for their protection. We continue to enforce social distancing protocols at OMV field offices and we ask that customers stay home when they are sick. When possible, please take advantage of our extensive list of online services on our website, www.expresslane.org

Louisiana OMV Alerts Customers of Phishing Scam

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is alerting residents of a text message phishing scam that has the potential to steal personal information. Louisiana residents have received text messages from scammers posing as the OMV. The messages originate from unfamiliar phone numbers and claim the recipient can collect a sum of money by clicking a link. The OMV recommends customers ignore and delete such messages.

The Louisiana OMV does not ask customers to provide sensitive personal data through text messages. Customers are encouraged to utilize the Louisiana State Police online system to report suspicious or criminal activity. The secure reporting form is located under the “Suspicious Activity” link at www.lsp.org.

The Louisiana OMV offers the following tips to help customers avoid scams:

  • DO exercise caution with all communications you receive from anonymous sources.
  • DO confirm the message was generated from a legitimate source. 
  • DO keep an eye out for signs of phishing (rewards, vague URLs, incorrect grammar).
 
  • DO NOT click on links in an unsolicited message from an unverified source.
  • DO NOT send your personal information via text. 
  • DO NOT post sensitive information online.
Additionally, the Louisiana OMV strongly recommends customers remain mindful and cautious when processing online transactions. Some private, unofficial motor vehicle-based websites can collect and store customers’ personal information and charge unnecessary fees. EXPRESSLANE.org Wins Multiple International Creative Awards

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is proud to announce that its newly redesigned website, www.expresslane.org, is the winner of two prestigious international creative awards. Expresslane.org earned gold in the 2021 Hermes Creative Awards and silver in the 2021 MUSE Creative Awards. 

The OMV worked with NIC Louisiana to redesign Expresslane.org in January 2021. The remodeled website further simplifies interactions with state government and enhances the overall citizen experience. Since relaunching, the website has set new monthly records for users in both January and March. “This is evidence of the hard work that went into this project and it speaks volumes to the commitment we have in providing our customers with a convenient online experience,” stated OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain.

The recent update features new and improved online services and essential motor vehicle information to Louisiana’s citizens in a user-friendly format. Expresslane.org is accessible on any device and offers OMV customers many popular online services such as:

OMV Alerts CDL/CLP Customers to Verify Medical Certificates

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is alerting commercial driver’s license (CDL) and commercial learner’s permit (CLP) customers to verify their medical certification status. CDL and CLP customers can confirm their medical status at www.expresslane.org. Commercial drivers must have a current medical certification or variance in their possession at all times while operating a commercial motor vehicle.  

Customers can submit their medical examiner certificate to the Office of Motor Vehicles in the following ways:

1.     Email: OMV_CDL_Medical@dps.la.gov
2.     Fax: 225-925-3901
3.     Mail: Office of Motor Vehicles, P.O. Box 64886, Baton Rouge, LA 70896 

Customers who recently received a letter from OMV with a notice date of February 23, 2021, or February 24, 2021, will not be marked “not medically certified” or “canceled” as stated in the letter. Those CDL and CLP customers will receive a new notice from OMV in the mail with updated deadlines and additional information. The Office of Motor Vehicles will notify customers 30 days prior to canceling their CDL status.

OMV Warns Customers of Imposter Motor Vehicle Websites

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) is warning citizens of third-party websites obtaining residents’ personal data and credit card information in addition to overcharging citizens for online vehicle registration services. These websites are privately owned by for-profit companies and are not affiliated with any state government agency.

“We have had reports from our citizens who were deceived into providing sensitive information to other websites,” said OMV Commissioner Karen St. Germain. “We encourage our customers to utilize our online services when they can, but they should be aware of the dangers associated with some third-party websites.”

Customers are encouraged to utilize the Louisiana State Police online system to report imposter websites. The secure reporting form is located under the “Suspicious Activity” link at www.lsp.org

Most customers are eligible to perform an online registration renewal at www.expresslane.org by using the Louisiana computer-generated renewal notice or their previously issued registration. In addition to renewing online, Louisiana residents have the option to renew their vehicle registration by mail or in-person at a local OMV field office or select Public Tag Agent locations. 

The Office of Motor Vehicles strongly recommends customers remain mindful and cautious when processing online transactions. Some private, unofficial motor vehicle-based websites can collect and store customers’ personal information and charge unnecessary fees. International Registration Plan (IRP) customers should utilize www.la-trucks-online.org for online services.

OMV offers the following tips for safe and secure online transactions:

·                Instead of using an internet search engine, type the URL directly into the address bar.
·                Verify the correct URL before entering personal information. 
·                Check your bank or credit card statements frequently. 
·                Print and save your receipt. 
·                Imposter websites often include advertisements; www.expresslane.org does not have ads.
