Vaping Facts

E-cigarettes entered the U.S. marketplace around 2007 and since 2014, they have been the most commonly used tobacco product among U.S youth.

The two most common types of e-cigarettes used by youth are prefilled pods or cartridges and disposables.

About 3.6 million U.S. youth reported current e-cigarette use in 2020.

In 2020 more than 3.6 million youth, including 1 in 5 high school students currently use e-cigarettes daily.

Nicotine is extremely poisonous.
A lethal dose for an average adult is 30-60 mg of nicotine (a drop of pure nicotine in liquid form) and as small as 10 mg in children.

Using nicotine in adolescence can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control.

Deaths from drug overdoses rose nearly 30% to the highest overdose deaths ever recorded, 93,000 in 2020.
According to the Kern County Coroner's Office there was more than a 30% increase in overdose deaths between 2020-2021.
As of November 16, 2021, the Kern County Coroner’s Division reports that out of 201 drug overdoses in 2021, 40 were due to Fentanyl and 161 were other substances mixed with Fentanyl. 6 deaths were minors.
