On July 9, 2021, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) identified the remains of Private Emmet W. Schwartz, missing from World War II.

Private Schwartz entered the U.S. Army from Ohio and served in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division. On December 27, 1944, Private Schwartz was killed in action during this fighting near Brandenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Active minefields prevented the recovery of his body at the time of his loss. In 1946, a set of unidentified remains were recovered from a foxhole near Obermaubach, Germany. These remains were buried as unknown remains until a multidisciplinary analysis prompted their exhumation for identification. The remains were accessioned into the DPAA laboratory and identified as those of Private Schwartz.

Private Schwartz is memorialized on the Walls of the Missing at the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten.
