This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with neurodiverse students and support them in the busy and loud high school environment. Many of them expressed the desire to have a break area where they could retreat from the noise and commotion of hallways and the demands of classrooms. Many of them avoid the cafeteria and need a place to break or eat. All of the social and academic expectations they face daily are overwhelming.

I was recently "given" a small classroom that could be turned into a break area!

The next step was to ensure that the place was what the students wanted and needed. I realized I would need help and here I am, asking for help on behalf of my students.

Students need these items to feel comfortable and calm, so they can return to meaningful learning.
