Coping Strategies and Psychological Distress of Social Work Faculty amid COVID-19

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:
Kyung-Mee Choi and Dan Knapp in the Department of Social Work at the University of St. Francis would like to invite you to participate in the study. We ask that you read this form and ask any questions you may have before agreeing to be in the research.

Your participation in this research is voluntary. Your decision whether or not to participate will not affect your current or future relations with the University of St. Francis. If you decide to participate, you are free to stop participating any time without affecting that relationship.

𝐏𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞: The purpose of this study is to examine how you experience psychological distress and how you use coping strategies to deal with distress amid COVID-19.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: Participation involves a voluntary, anonymous survey that will take 5-10 minutes to complete. No identifying information about you or your school will be collected.

𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤/𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬: You will be asked to answer questions about your psychological distress and coping strategies amid COVID-19. If you become uncomfortable about answering such questions, you may stop participating at any time. If you get upset by the questionnaires, you may contact the researchers and the researchers will provide the name and number of a licensed therapist who will be available by phone or in person for one consultation to talk to about your reaction. If you desire further consultation, this therapist will provide you with an appropriate referral for follow-up treatment. Any additional need for treatment may be referred to a low cost clinic, and any additional costs of treatment will be incurred by the participant. There is no compensation of participants. However, by participating in this study, you will be helpful in better understanding how social work faculty experience psychological distress and how they use coping strategies to deal with distress amid COVID-19.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The survey is online. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and your responses will remain completely anonymous and confidential. This study will not ask for your name or any kind of identification information. You may withdraw at any time without consequences of any kind. You are free to refuse to answer questions that you do not want to answer and still be in the study. If you are affiliated with the University of St. Francis, please be assured that your decision whether or not to participate in this study will not affect your relations with the University in any way.
