2023-2024 School Year IA PTSO Student Advisory Committee Application Deadline: Sunday, August 20, 2023

What is the Student Advisory Committee?

It is a group of up to 35 PTSO student members chosen by application only by the Executive Board of Innovation Academy PTSO, Inc. ("PTSO"), a 501(c)(3) organization, to serve as both advisors to the PTSO regarding student-life and our internal student volunteer organization. They are the student voice (“S”) in the PTSO.  The Student Advisory Committee helps define the interests of the student body by conducting surveys of students, offering student opinion on issues, previewing spirit wear, and representing the student body at FCS and/or IA events.

The IA PTSO SAC is NOT an Innovation Academy "club" nor is it Student Council (Student Government).  It is a non-profit organization supporting the academic pursuits, student-life and faculty of IA.

The SAC participates in phenomenal PTSO programming including but not limited to:

  • School Improvements
  • Hydroponic/Aquaponic Garden
  • Spirit Wear
  • PTSO Sponsored Engineering Flex Friday - October Sky / Rocket Day
  • PTSO Sponsored IT Flex Friday - Raspberry Pi Hackathon
  • PTSO Sponsored Healthcare Sciences Flex Friday - Mass Casualty Simulation Event
  • International Night of Innovation
  • Phoenix Fest
  • Alpharetta Scarecrow Festival
  • 9-11 Memorial
  • Staff Appreciation
  • Senior Events
The IA PTSO SAC is supervised by PTSO Executive and Advisory Board parents, who are registered, approved volunteers with FCS.  Each individual program/committee above also has faculty members with which we partner to execute these events/programs.

It is a wonderful opportunity to develop leadership skills and earn community service hours for college applications.  As such, there are duties and obligations associated with serving, which will be evaluated each semester for continued membership eligibility including:

  • Mandatory monthly meetings
  • 1-Hr Shift at International Nights (Fall) or Phoenix Fest (Spring)
  • 10 hours of volunteering/semester
The PTSO uses Membership Toolkit website (www.iatso.org) and Google Workspace suite of products to manage our non-profit 501(c)(3) organization including:
  • GMail
  • Google Calendar
  • Google Chat
  • Google Drive
  • Google Docs/Forms/Sheets
  • Google Meet.
In order to effectively participate, you must be willing to use these products to communicate, plan, and volunteer.

Please apply by the application deadline of August 20th.
