Program Description

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) at SMCC welcomes all students interested in enhancing student leadership through self-exploration and skill development. The program strives to strengthen students’ networks, enhance educational experiences, and prepare students for a variety of roles both at the college and in the community. 

Utilizing storytelling and the power of mentorship, students will be exposed to multiple concepts of leadership, leadership strategies and theories, and leadership styles. Through this they will explore themselves and develop a leadership style effective to their unique strengths and skills. 

As a result of the successful completion of the Emerging Leaders Program at SMCC, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and an Emerging Leaders Program Cord to be worn at the graduation ceremony.

As a result of participating in the Emerging Leaders Program, students will:

  • Be familiar with oneself and one’s leadership philosophy
  • Have a foundation of soft skills necessary for effective leadership
  • Practice methods of healthy communication and interpersonal skills

Certificate Requirement: 

Sessions are open to all students to attend individually. Those who wish to receive a certificate of completion must complete all 6 of the Sessions. Successful completion of a session will involve your attendance, engagement, as well as the completion of the activities and assigned reflections.
