Assignment Four - The Adopted Child

About This Item

KRON-TV Assignment Four documentary film which first aired on May 3 1965, narrated by Ed Flemming, which according to the original promotional material offers: "A candid look at the adoption process in the Bay Area." Mike and Ann Polifrone, who live in the Eureka Valley neighborhood, consent for KRON to follow their experience of trying to adopt a child in San Francisco from the point they decide to adopt. Includes scenes of: a group interview at the San Francisco County Welfare Department; the Polifrones talking about their decision to adopt and being interviewed by a social worker at home; the Polifrones meeting with their daughter Triana for the first time; Triana aged 18 months old at home with her parents, who reflect on their happiness and how their lives have changed and an interview with a senior child welfare worker who talks about "hard to place" children. After meeting Triana at the Public Welfare Department, Mike Polifrone says: "We knew we were gonna bring her home right then and there. It's something you can not explain, it's just a feeling that's there." Ann Polifrone explains: "I fell in love with her immediately and I knew she was the right one. I don't know what made me feel that but there's something within me. I knew that this was our baby."  The TV Archive like to thank Triana for providing us with additional information about her family and for bringing this film to our attention. This film was produced and written by Bob Anderson, directed by Al Scollay, edited by Luise Spier and the cameraman was Charles Stanyan. Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
