Democrat Patricia Timmons-Goodson leads Republican Richard Hudson by 3 points (45% to 42%, with 13% undecided) in a DCCC Analytics survey of 433 likely November voters conducted in North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District.
PATRICIA TIMMONS-GOODSON LEADS AMONG WOMEN, VOTERS OF COLOR, REGISTERED UNAFFILIATED/OTHER VOTERS, AND YOUNG VOTERS, AND IS COMPETITIVE AMONG OLDER VOTERS
Patricia Timmons-Goodson already holds a commanding lead of 59 points (72% to 13%, with 15% undecided) among voters of color and is ahead by 15 points among registered Unaffiliated/Other voters (49% to 34%, with 18% undecided), by 19 points among voters under 40 years of age (45% to 26%, with 29% undecided), and by 12 points among women (50% to 38%, with 12% undecided). Moreover, Timmons-Goodson is within striking distance among older voters such as voters ages 40-64 (45% to 50%, with 6% undecided) and voters ages 65 and older (45% to 49%, with 6% undecided). The poll is clear evidence that Hudson’s attacks on her record are falling flat and after weeks of hearing PTGs positives on air she has grown her name ID and consolidated independents and Democrats.
STRONG TIDE FAVORING DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES IN NC-08
In the district, Democrats are ahead up and down the ballot, with Joe Biden leading Trump by 4 points (47% to 43%, with 10% undecided), Cal Cunningham leading Thom Tillis by 6 points (48% to 42%, with 10% undecided), and a generic Democrat is leading a generic Republican by 2 points (47% to 45%, with 8% undecided). For comparison, in 2018, the combined Democratic candidates who ran in the current boundaries of NC-08 received 46.7% of the two-way vote and in 2016 Hillary Clinton received 45.2% of the two-way vote.
This survey of 433 likely November 2020 voters was conducted from October 5th-6th by the DCCC Analytics department. This poll was conducted through a standard blend of live and automated calls to landlines and cellphones. The margin of error for any one data point of the total sample is +/-4.7 points, and larger for sub-groups within the sample.
About the District: NC-08 is a rural-suburban district (57.3% suburban, 42.7% rural, 0.1% urban, per voter registration), located in south central North Carolina, stretching from the suburbs and exurbs northeast of Charlotte to Fayetteville. The citizen voting age population is 27.5% Black, 7.0% Hispanic/Latino, 2.1% Asian American Pacific Islander, and 0.6% Native American.
