HOUSTON, Texas (KIAH) Hospitals are having a tough time, struggling to keep blood supplies available even locally. On Friday afternoon, you can walk up and donate blood at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Medical professionals say they expect many Houstonians to be in attendance. Healthcare workers say during the summer months, blood donations tend to decline partially due to school being out and people traveling more.
Doctors say kids and young adults make up a large portion of the donations.

Health officials say in recent months, hospital usage for blood has risen by nearly 14 percent due to the increased number of surgeries. Several medical procedures were postponed at the beginning of the pandemic.
The Sugar Land Skeeters are huge advocates for saving lives through blood donations. The skeeters have been long-time partners for this event for nearly ten years.
According to event workers, you can walk in without an appointment. Although, sign-ups are preferred. Donors are asked to enter the parking lot from Stadium Drive
Officials say everyone will be pre-screened for health and safety precautions. The full donation process takes about 45 minutes.
