Kevin Garrett

Garrett begins his  24th season as head coach in 2023-24 of the Concord baseball program.

The owner of 544 career wins, Garrett went over 500 career wins during the 2022 season with a win over Notre Dame, March 28.

In his seven seasons since taking back over as the head coach of the baseball program, Garrett's program has made the conference postseason tournament, extending the streak of making the league tournament to 25 consecutive seasons, 20 of which have come with Garrett leading the program.

In addition to the impressive streak of making the conference postseason, Garrett has coached 35 all-conference players in the last five seasons including 16 First Team All-MEC selections, bringing his career total of first team all-conference players coached to 42. 

Despite winning 15 regular-season games during the 2021 season, the Mountain Lions made a run throughout the MEC Tournament, and appeared in their first conference championship game in eight years. 

The 2021 season ended with four players earning all-region, including NCBWA All-American Anthony Stehlin. Stehlin was also the MEC Player of the Year--the second in the last five seasons for CU. Concord was just one of two teams in the Atlantic Region with four all-region selections. Stehlin was the sixth conference player of the year coached by Career, and the 11th All-American. 

After resuming his role as head coach in the summer of 2015, Garrett led the Mountain Lions to the 2017 MEC South Division, marking the fifth division title for Garrett including four WVIAC South Division crowns.

During the 2017 season, Concord had a league-high nine players selected to the All-MEC team including the MEC Player of the Year, Chad Frazier.

Garrett guided the Mountain Lion baseball team to four WVIAC Southern Division titles, the 2001 WVIAC championship – Concord’s first in 40 years – and three NCAA Tournament appearances. Garrett coached the program from 1996-2010 before resuming coaching duties in June 2015.

Five of Garrett’s players went on to sign professional contracts. Most recently, Will Guay, a former All-MEC First Team selection was drafted by the Cardinals in the 24th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. Garrett won the WVIAC Coach of the Year award three times -- 2001, 2003 and 2008. His 2008 team finished 35-15 and set a then single-season victories record. His final team, in 2010, posted a record of 29-9, setting a single-season winning percentage record of .763.

In his first stint as coach from 1996-2010, Coach mentored six conference players of the year twp pitchers of the year, 14 all-region players and 11 All-Americans. Additionally, nine of Garrett's former players have been inducted into the Concord Athletics Hall of Fame.

A native of Pineville, W. Va., Garrett graduated from Bluefield State College with a degree in education in 1989. He also received his master’s from Concord in health promotion.

As a baseball player, Garrett set BSC career and single-season records leader in stolen bases. He was later voted into Bluefield State’s Baseball Hall of Fame. After college, Garrett was employed by Raleigh County Schools as a physical education teacher and football and baseball coach.

Garrett and his wife, Robin – a Special  Education Lead Specialist for Mercer County Public Schools – have been married for over 30 years. They have a son, Bo and a daughter, Taylor. The Garrett's also have three grandchildren, Jaxon, Harper and Connor
