Course Description

The course introduces theories and concepts in psychology that will foster academic success and provide students with opportunities to synthesize and apply that knowledge.

This graduate course is 4 weeks.

PLEASE NOTE:
Attendance and participation are mandatory in all university courses, and specific requirements may differ by course. If attendance requirements are not met, a student may be removed from the course. Please review the Course Attendance Policy in the Catalog for more information.

This course is not available for enrollment to residents of Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky.

Course Objectives

Week 1

  • Discover personal characteristics that promote growth and success.
  • Identify ways to leverage personal strengths for growth.

Week 2

  • Demonstrate SMART goal setting for personal and academic goals.
  • Recognize causes and symptoms of stress, as well as ways to manage stress.
  • Examine how to use communication skills to resolve conflicts.

Week 3

  • Compare the values of self-esteem and self-acceptance.
  • Distinguish between self-defeating attitudes and positive beliefs.

Week 4

  • Evaluate academic, personal, and professional priorities.
  • Identify ways to overcome procrastination.
  • Distinguish between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation.
  • Identify personal motivation, wants, and needs.
