This is a professional staff position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Harry L. Smith Commons area of Collier Library and the development, recommendation, and administration of policies, procedures, and processes regarding the circulation of library materials (ex. books, technology lending, reserves, etc.). The selected candidate will be responsible for assessing, researching, evaluating, and reporting new developments in access services and government documents. This librarian is responsible for the user-centered, safe, innovative, and functional environment within the Commons and for keeping services in alignment with the mission and strategic priorities of the department. This position is responsible for; Collier Library’s adherence to federal guidelines regarding the Federal Depository Library Program, collection development within the program, professional development of oneself and others concerning the program, and maintaining a contact relationship within the program.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Supervise, support, and assist in training and development of the Access Services staff and student employees.
  • Oversee circulation of library material and set circulation policies in conjunction with the University Librarian.
  • Oversee auxiliary lending programs (ex. technology lending).
  •  Work in collaboration with other librarians to set strategies to organize, digitize, and make information accessible.
  •  Facilitate innovative onsite user experiences that support traditional and evolving forms of research.
  • Supervise and coordinate library stacks management.
  • Supervise special event staffing (ex. Finals Week).
  •  Assign individual projects to Access Services staff.
  •  Serve as a liaison to various departments on campus.
  •  Seek internal and external input toward the development of new and innovative programming and staffing.
  • Build strategic relationships throughout campus and solicit feedback for library and information services.
  • Update existing policies toward innovative, efficient, and inclusive practices in course reserves, resource sharing, and scheduling of services.
  • Serve as the primary contact, and the librarian responsible for collection development, for the University for the Federal Depository Library Program.
  • Maintain a robust knowledge-base on policies and current developments within the Federal Depository Library Program, as well as provide training for others regarding information pertinent to the program.
  •  Supervise resource sharing and library makerspace staff.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Additional Duties:

  • Teach library familiarization, information literacy, and research-focused classes.
  •  Conduct individual and group research consultations.
  •  Serve as a member of the instruction team within the department.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Significant experience with access services, reference, and research practices in a public or academic library.
  •  Significant experience with government documents in a public or academic library.
  •  Knowledge of accessibility standards and accessible design.
  •  Significant experience with a Library Management System (LMS).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in academic libraries.
  •  Demonstrated experience in coordinating, planning, and implementing library services.
  •  Ability to operate in multiple software environments.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skill.
  • Experience in conducting library instruction or information literacy instruction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent, required.
  •  Experience with the Federal Depository Library Program, strongly preferred.
  •  At least two years of related experience, required.
