What Berks Families are Saying About the Program

“It is a great opportunity to spend time with your youth and to practice difficult conversations.”

“The sacrifice of your time is worth it. You will learn something about your child you did not know.”

“Sacrificing the time to attend all sessions is totally worth it. You will learn new things, create memories, and meet new people.”

“Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to participate. I am a mental health counselor working mainly with children and adolescents, and, as a parent, I feel that prevention is the best way to go. I wanted my son who is in this crucial age to learn from you guys.”

About COCA's Strengthening Families Program (SFP 10-14)

Is there a cost?

No. Participating families attend at no cost, and all materials will be supplied for free. Costs for the program are funded through a grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

How is the virtual program different than an in-person program?

In person sessions meet once a week, with adults and children attending at the same time, but in separate groups, concluding with a joint family session. Dinner is provided. We are currently providing in-person sessions only!

The virtual sessions will consist of two evenings per week for a seven-week period. One evening will feature programming for kids only, and one will be for adults and families together.

Who can attend?

This program is for Berks County families who have children aged 10-14. Please note: this is not a remedial program. It is intended for any family seeking to guide youth and teach children the skills to avoid peer pressure and deal with stress.

How is the program structured?

Parents and youth meet in separate groups, then come together to practice skills, play games, and do family projects. Each week, families focus on a different topic aimed at helping participants build skills, solve problems and increase family bonding. A family meal is provided at each session.
