Gas prices have been skyrocketing to new heights.

The latest eye-popping number for people here in Central New York: 5 dollars a gallon.

That’s the price that some gas stations in the area were showing today.

Jessica Bigness, a mother of two, says the rising gas prices make it harder to provide other necessities.

“People like me on fixed incomes, we’re struggling,” said Bigness. “Especially trying to put gas in our car, or even struggling to put food on our table to even feed our own children.”

Bigness drives her son to after-school programs, her father to physical therapy twice a week, and her daughter to and from school every day.

“I have a truck, so 40 dollars doesn’t even give me half a tank,” said Bigness.

By using this extra money on gas, it strips away her opportunity to do other fun activities with her children.

“With them, if they ever want to go out to eat, I have to tell them no,” said Bigness. “We can not go out to eat, I can’t bring them to Onondaga park to even go walk.”
