What’s good for the planet, is good for business. Addressing global economic and societal crises while protecting our planet present some of the greatest challenges of our lifetime. But it’s not too late to put together a future that allows everyone to not just survive – but thrive. For that, we need technology. Technology will help us better understand and minimize the impact of businesses on our planet. We want you to join us in advancing sustainability by understanding how to use technology to measure and minimize environmental impact. Sustainability doesn’t have to be a big daunting topic. Everyone can start small and make a difference, whether it’s home automation to make things more efficient, to sustainable business practices that reduce waste and improve economic opportunity.
This hackathon will specifically focus on using Azure IoT technologies that will give endless possibilities: Collect real time data, capture rich information using cameras and machine learnings, create real time insights, and automated action without human intervention.
Sustainability solutions can be categorized in 4 main areas, below are some common scenarios that you might consider for your hack.

Eligibility
Developers of all backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to submit projects. Individuals, and teams of individuals, must all be legal residents of the fifty United States (including the District of Columbia), and 18 years of age or older.

What to Build
Build an open source IoT application prototype that helps improve environmental sustainability using any of the below tools.
- Azure IoT Hub
- Azure Digital Twins
- Azure IoT Central (SaaS solution)
What to Submit
- Provide a URL to your working prototype.
- Provide a URL to your GitHub code repository. Repository must be public and have an open source license.
- Include a video (3-5 minutes) that demonstrates your project in action (hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook Video and made public). Video must include an explanation of how your project helps improve environmental sustainability.
- Provide an Azure IoT Reference Architecture outlining a high-level overview of the tools and devices used within the application.
