Violent Delights (White Monarch Book 1) Kindle Edition
Cristiano de la Rosa is a man as big and bold as his legend. Once upon a time, he was our cartel’s best soldier . . . until he became my family’s worst enemy. And a man like Cristiano will bend fate to his will to get what he wants—even if it means tearing me from another's arms.
Because in the de la Rosa family, old grudges run deeper than loyalty, and betrayal is a three-letter word: war. But this feud isn’t between enemies—it’s between brothers. And I’m the prize.

Well done Jessica Hawkins what a beautiful story
This story is nothing like the other stories that Jessica Hawkins has written. It's gritty and dirty and all I wanted to do was sink my teeth into this story again and again. And maybe sink them into Cristiano. But that's another story ;) And even though the story was so different to her usual tales, it was still quintessentially a Jessica Hawkins story. It had immense detail and richness with a little bit of magic that you associate with a Ms Hawkins tale. I am bursting at the seams and have no idea how I will cope with waiting for the next installment! I need it now!
On a whim, I decided to sign up to read this because despite my savage hatred towards love triangles, I have an unhealthy obsession with dark cartel and mafia romances. Watching the intricacies weave together into an intriguing and captivating narrative leaves me undeniably ecstatic for all the sordid possibilities—my head is filled with multiple theories and assumptions! I have many thoughts running through my mind, with a myriad of questions accompanying them waiting to be answered.
“The truth is in you like a heart. Like blood in your veins. Like bones.”
I’m not quite certain what to mention, or where to begin really, other than this story is beautifully bitter and tragically sweet with an innocent Natalia caught within a feud between two disgruntled brothers, Diego and Cristiano, who couldn’t be anymore different. One’s kind, hiding behind a cleverly disguised facade; the other is darker, unapologetically ruthless and merciless with a cold, but brilliant persona. I knew where my heart would align itself before this even began.
Read this with an open mind as your allegiances will be challenged by certain enigmas and despite the disgusting albeit delightful love triangle moments, this is sinfully decadent and wonderfully enchanting. Violent Delights is quickly forming into a favourite delicious slow burn forbidden romance of mine, a perfect beginning to what will become an enthralling trilogy brimming with deceitful actions and manipulative words.
“With me, you always have a choice. You're not beholden to my wishes, but I hope you'll still carry them on your wings and deliver them for me.”
Without an ounce of doubt, I'm entranced by this suspense filled, all-consuming narrative that sends your heart beating tenfold and your emotions soaring as the cunning deception and shrewd scheming overflows across the pages. If you love cartel settings; two, competitive brothers irrevocably different, vying for the same woman's attention and affection; a romance darker and gritter than standard, pick this up. Hold onto your wits and emotions—Jessica Hawkins doesn't hold back!

Violent Delights is written in three POV’s, the main being Natalia Cruz with a chapter each from Diego de la Rosa and Christiano de la Rosa.
Natalia Cruz is a sheltered Mafia Princess who has lived amongst the chaos for most of her life and yet has no idea what those around her are capable of. Her father made a conscious decision to keep her as far removed from anything to do with the Cartel, even sending her to California to attend school.
The opening chapter of Violent Delights is through Natalia’s eyes and sets the scene for the series. It evolves heavily around Christiano and Diego. There is quite an age difference between the 3 characters, Natalia has grown up being quite close to both brothers in different ways. One always her protector, and the other always getting her into trouble.
Christiano and Diego are from the De la Rosa Cartel Family who you learn early in the book were killed, leaving Natalia’s father to take Christiano and Deigo under his wing.
I found Natalia to be a slightly frustrating character, she was naïve and seemed so much younger then her 20 years. She made decisions that made me want to shake some common sense into her. And then at other times she was far more perceptive than anyone gave her credit for. As I got further into the book and she grew as a character I liked her more and more.
I always tend to fall for the bad boy, the one that everyone else doesn’t want the heroine to be with and I instantly fell for Christiano in Violent Delights while simultaneously falling in dislike with Diego. I never connected with his character, I thought he was your typical manipulative character.
Violent Delights was exactly what I needed to get over a book hangover, I was obsessed from the first page and struggled to put it down when life got in the way. I found myself hiding in the car for a few brief minutes before having to go into work to read just one more page. This book had me captivated, I absolutely love Jessica Hawkins writing style! The angst, the slow burn, the twists and turns, I loved every second of this book!

Well written with great characters and dialogue but what stood out was the story, it flowed effortlessly and kept the pages turning.
Now moving on to book two.
I know what I would have done... California

This series has been on my radar for a while now, but I am not big on starting a series and knowing I have to wait months in between installments.....mainly because my memory is crap and I always forget most of what I’m supposed to know. So, I wait until the series is complete or near complete. In this case I waited quite a while after it was complete BUT I am glad I did......because this was one of those I couldn’t put down until it’s conclusion. It’s THAT GOOD.
Reading the blurb, I had an idea of what to expect YET also wasn’t fully capable of understanding the complexity that this series held. Two brothers, one girl. A tragic betrayal that seemed to start it all. You will be forced to pick between brothers, not knowing the true scope of how much of their “monster” they are showing you. But it was SO MUCH MORE than even I imagined. It is packed with secrets.....it’s addicting and angsty in a way that I can’t even begin to explain. And what’s more? It gets even better in the next one. From the freaking prologue I was at a level of obsession with these characters that might not have been necessarily healthy.

Book Facts:
Told in: Primarily from Natalia’s POV, with small POV segments from both Diego & Cristiano.
About: In the first installment of the White Monarch trilogy, the princess of the Cruz Cartel Natalia has planned to get far away & stay far away from that dangerous life. The plan? To have her father release the love of her life Diego from his duties so they can live their happily ever after without looking over their shoulders. But when a monster from their past comes out of the shadows, it’s not just Natalia’s plans that are in danger.....this monster is out to own her as well.
Safe Read? Yes, although it does contain some cartel-related violence and scenes.
Ends in: A cliffy that continues in the next installment (already out).
My Thoughts:
There were so many things I loved about this book. It’s one where even the things you hate (characters, decisions, etc) can’t be considered negatives because they bring so much to the story. In this installment, she does a great job at showcasing two brothers who are enemies with secrets we (as the reader) aren’t meant to uncover or know. Yet, what you are given about both of them is what you use to “pick” which one you are rooting for. That one for me? Without a doubt it was Cristiano. Sure he’s the “bad” guy, assumed to have committed the single worst crime against Natalia & her family.....yet I knew from that very first scene that he is so much more than we are shown and that he was the “better” brother. But in this installment? He is very very bad, and so good at it. He is everything I love in an antihero. As for Diego, the good brother, he is hiding some stuff......I cannot wait to see what those things are.
I loved how realistic the entire cartel world Jessica created was. Never once did I feel like something was far-fetched or ridiculous. And the sexual tension & chemistry between Natalia & Cristiano is only going to get hotter....I just know it. But if I had to pick one “negative”, it would be Natalia’s blind loyalty & devotion to Diego. She’s a smart girl, yet she abandons every ounce of intelligence when it comes to Diego. I could normally chalk this up to love and the beauty of such an incredibly deep trust, BUT not when it is so evident he is manipulating her for his own gain. Hopefully she starts to question more in the next installment.
My Verdict:
This is an absolute MUST READ series. I have to warn y’all though.....before you even think about opening this make sure you have enough time to finish the series. You are not going to want to put it down until you get to the conclusion, TRUST ME. Jessica created a series that is worthy of the hype surrounding it.
“As I told you before, brother, once this was done, there’d be no turning back. She is mine. If you, or anyone, touches her again, I will rain down a fury the likes of which not even the Maldonados have seen.”

Tragedy struck Natalie's family, cartel princess and she lost people dear to her. Years later, one of these people is back and he wants her.
It's a bit of a love triangle, but not. I know, it doesn't make sense but even if you're not a fan of this trope - like yours truly - you should still give it a try. You'll see what I mean.
There's violence and Natalie is a feisty one, very stubborn, as well, but she knows she has to make sacrifices to save her family. Ends on a cliffhanger and I'm pretty sure you'll want to be reading book two, straight away.
I enjoyed it and recommend it. 4.5 stars.
