Application: Lingít Yoo X’atángi Class for Educators

In this course, students will (a) learn about the Lingít language through overviews of topics such as the movement for Lingít language revitalization, basic linguistic knowledge of Lingít phonetics and grammar, strategies for teaching and incorporating the language with students by participating in discussion/lecture style lessons, and (b) learn to speak some basic Lingít language by participating in lessons that follow the Paul Creek Method for developing adult fluency in the Lingít language.

Who is this for? This course is designed specifically for novice and beginner students of the Lingít language.  This workshop will have a limited enrollment to ensure that all participants will be able to get the most out of the immersive lessons.

When will it be? March 30th & April 6th, 2024

  • March 30: 8:30AM - 4:00PM, with lunch break 12:00PM - 1:00PM
  • April 6: 8:30AM - 4:00PM, with lunch break 12:00PM - 1:30 PM.  (If enrolled for UAS credit, your April 6 afternoon session is 1:00PM - 4:30PM.)
It is expected that participants will attend both days & participate in the immersive language lessons.  

What will be the structure? There will be four 90-minute immersive lessons that will cover portions of the following topics: feelings, body parts, foods, and places/landforms.

Additional Pay: All participants who complete both days will be awarded additional pay of 11.5 hours at their hourly rate.

UAS Credit: Upon completion of the course (the 2 in-person days as well 25 hours of outside course work, as required by UAS Academic Catalog), registered participants can receive 1 ED S593 credit from UAS.  Course fees are to be paid by the student.  Final Assignments are due by May 3, 2024.  Detailed information about the credit course is available at https://bit.ly/LingitClassCredit

Please note that this course is intended to be an introduction to the language, and students will be encouraged to explore options for continuing their study of the language after completion of the course.
