Biography

JUNIOR (2018-19): Maitland, on the All-MEAC Second Team and NABC District 15 honors, averaged 15.1 points and 4.6 assists in MEAC games ... The Daytona Beach native and Father Lopez graduate produced four 20-point games in conference play, and six overall with a high of 29 at Miami ... He scored in double-figures the last five and 11 of the final 12 games of the regular season ... The point guard was also named the MEAC's Player of the Week twice and Second Team All-Conference ... He also averaged close to two steals a game in conference action ... Maitland was an 86 percent free throw shooter on the season.

SOPHOMORE (2017-18): Stepped in immediately to begin his BCU career as the starting point guard for the first 21 games before ending his season with an injury ... averaged 30.6 minutes and led the team with 99 assists before his season was cut short ... finished second on the squad in assists and steals (34) ... posted a pair of double-doubles, including hi first game as a Wildcat with 16 points and 12 assists vs. Johnson Univ. (11/10) ... his second came with 15 points and 11 helpers in MEAC opener vs. SCSU (1/3) ... went off for a season-high 22 on 9-14 FG shooting vs. Boston U. (12/10) ... his 2.36 A/TO ratio not only led the team but would have paced the MEAC had he qualified. 

Before BCU: Malik Maitland joined the Wildcats for the 2017-18 season after spending the last two seasons at Morehead (Ky.) State.
 
The 2014-15 Daytona Beach News-Journal Player Of The Year, Maitland led the area in scoring in both his senior (23.8 ppg) and junior (22.1 ppg) seasons, while averaging 14.0 points his sophomore year as part of a Green Wave team that finished 27-3. He started playing on Father Lopez's varsity squad as a seventh grader.   
 
At Morehead State, Maitland played 27 games during his 2015-16 freshman season and started eight games, including both of the Eagles' Ohio Valley Conference Tournament contests. He averaged 5.4 points in 16.6 minutes per game, including a 12-point, nine-assist outing against Nevada in the CBI Tournament. He saw action in nine games his sophomore season.
 
Maitland played his AAU ball with the Each 1 Teach 1 AAU program.
