Position description

The Department of Ancient Greek and Roman Studies ( formerly Classics) at the University of California, Berkeley seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenured) in Ancient Greek Studies.

The Department seeks a specialist in Greek art/archaeology and/or literature, from the beginnings to the 3rd century CE, whose expertise complements the range of subjects and approaches covered by current faculty. Duties will include developing and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervising and mentoring graduate degree candidates, contributing as a dissertation committee member or as dissertation advisor, participating in the administrative activities and intellectual life of the department and the University. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. or equivalent international degree or enrolled in a Ph.D or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Preferred qualifications

Advanced training and competence in Greek art/archaeology and/or literature; appropriate training and competence in ancient Greek and Latin; likelihood of making original and significant contributions to the advancement of the field, methodological rigor, ability write clearly and argue cogently. Evidence of understanding issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
