To be nominated for a Goldwater Scholarship by your academic institution, you first need to complete and submit a short Student Profile (Name, Email address, telephone number, etc.) and a Pre-application (Year in school, major, GPA, highest degree anticipated, brief career interest statement, and potential recommendation letter writers). Please complete the Student Profile and the Pre-application as soon after the competition opening date as possible (the first Tuesday in September)!
While it is called a “pre-application,” this material is simply a declaration of your interest in wanting to learn more about the Goldwater Scholarship. Submission of this information enables you to begin a conversation with your Goldwater Campus Representative. These materials are NOT used as part of your application, and NONE have any bearing on your candidacy. The letter writers you list are not notified; you can even change your recommenders later in the process. Please do not sell yourself or your abilities short. Talk with your Goldwater Campus Representative before making any decisions about an application.
Once you submit your Student Profile and Pre-application, you should expect to hear from your Goldwater Campus Representative within a week. If you are not contacted, email or call them using the contact information provided in the Campus Representative Locator.
