The ALI Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) would like to invite you to this year’s Resource Rendezvous, a hybrid event held online and at Irwin Library (Library Instruction Lab) at Butler University in Indianapolis on Friday, March 24, 2023.
This event is sponsored by the ALI Board of Directors and uses facilities generously provided by the Butler University Libraries. Registration is open to all personnel who are currently employed by ALI member libraries. All costs associated with registration, parking, lunch, and other refreshments are paid for by ALI and Butler, so attendance is entirely free to all participants. There are 35 seats available for in-person attendance; if more than 35 register for in-person attendance, the seats will be available on a first come, first served basis. As of March 6, there are plenty of in-person seats available.

Parking for those attending the meeting in-person is available in the Sunset Avenue Garage on Butler’s campus and will be validated at the event. Please see the map of Butler’s campus for finding your way around.

Keynote Presentation: Complex Problems, Complex Solutions: Thoughts on Transformative Agreements, by Laurel Crawford, Johns Hopkins University
Transformative agreements (TAs) are an established, but still rapidly evolving, academic library acquisition model. These deals bundle reading access to a publisher’s journal portfolio with Open Access publishing rights for institutionally-affiliated authors. Forthcoming federal funding agency requirements, consortial offers, and institutional budgeting pressures will soon prioritize consideration of TAs by all academic libraries, if you’re not already participating. This talk will share some philosophical thoughts connected to practical, real-world situations, to help the library community think through when, whether, and how to engage with TAs alongside traditional collection development activities.

Session Three: Open Access Models & Initiatives, by Jill Grogg, Lyrasis
Jill Grogg will discuss various open access business models and initiatives, including crowd-funding, subscribe-to-open, and others, and explore how libraries of various sizes and missions can engage with these various opportunities.
Session Four: On Demand Acquisition Services @ IUPUI, by Kevin Petsche, IUPUI
IUPUI has initiated three on-demand services in the past 7 years: Faculty Articles on Demand (2016); Books on Demand (2018) and Faculty Films on Demand (2021). “Just In Time/On Demand” orders now account for 90% of the library’s monographic purchases and 100% of the library’s streaming videos purchases. The goal of each program was to cut costs while delivering materials at the point of need for faculty and students. This presentation will discuss results, lessons learned, as well as current and anticipated challenges.
