Five years ago, on September 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria made its landfall on the island of Puerto Rico. With the island’s geographical location and the increase in global climate change, devasting hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes have continually affected the island during the last few years. With Hurricane Fiona’s most recent landfall, Puerto Ricans are once again experiencing flooding and mudslides, leaving 1.5 million people without power. Hurricane Fiona caused catastrophic damage to homes and roads still recovering from previous natural disasters.
