Plenary Session
Navigating an Uncertain Present & Building for a Better Future

Speaker: Pascal Finnet, EY’s wavespace Advisory Board Chair

To live in the world today is to experience accelerating change and to watch a future we had scarcely imagined unfold at a pace we've never experienced. And to not only survive but thrive in this context, it's not enough to simply know what's coming. You have to understand how the pieces fit and how emerging risks, evolving possibilities, and proliferating connections open new opportunities for those who can imagine them. You’ll learn to spot weak signals, and how to capitalize on the change we are all experiencing by thinking beyond it. Because if you only set your sights on what’s coming next, you’re already too late.

AICPA-NASBA CPA Evolution Model Curriculum
Core Sections Concurrent Deep Dive Discussions

Concurrent sessions will be recorded. Recordings will be made available a few days after the event. Please choose one session to attend during the live event.

Are your students ready to meet the needs of today’s accounting profession? There’s an expectation that, regardless of the role or industry in which they work, every newly licensed CPA will possess the same essential knowledge and skills as other CPAs. These essentials fall into three areas that will make up the core topics under the CPA Evolution model: Accounting, Audit, and Tax.

Learn how the AICPA-NASBA CPA Evolution Model Curriculum addresses these topics and can help guide your accounting programs through the CPA Evolution transition and prepare them for the changes ahead. See where existing courses could use a boost or where your program might need to expand learning through new curriculum offerings that will prepare the next generation of CPAs.

CPA Evolution Model Curriculum Task Force Members will lead participants through each section, highlighting how the curriculum addresses the specifics of core topics.

Discipline Concurrent Deep Dive Discussions

Concurrent sessions will be made available a few days after the event. Please choose one session to attend during the live event.

Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR)

Assurance and advisory services are a foundational focus for many CPAs. For data-oriented students interested in financial statement analysis and reporting, technical accounting, and financial/operations management within various industries, the BAR Discipline section’s proposed content areas will address these topics.

Task Force co-chairs Kim Church, Missouri State University Ph.D., and Shelly Stromp, KPMG LLP will go deeper into the CPA Evolution Model Curriculum and walk participants through the topics and learning objectives relevant to the proposed BAR content and the needs of CPAs working in this area.

Information Systems and Controls (ISC)

Are your students the kind of future auditors drawn to IT governance, data security, and business processes? It’s become a growing area for CPAs and ISC Discipline speaks to these topics.

Task Force co-chairs Audrey Katcher, Rubin Brown, and Nadia Rogers, Virginia Tech, will go deeper into the CPA Evolution Model Curriculum and walk participants through the topics and learning objectives relevant to proposed ISC content and the needs of CPAs working in this area.

Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP)

An interest in the many facets and details of taxation and personal finance drives many future CPAs into this field. With TCP having a more advanced focus on these areas, the Discipline section’s content will place greater emphasis on the skills related to individual and entity tax compliance and financial planning.

Task Force co-chairs Annette Nellen, San José State University, and Stephanie Saunders, Saunders & Saunders PC, will go deeper into the CPA Evolution Model Curriculum and walk participants through the topics and learning objectives relevant to the proposed TCP content and the needs
