Started in 1956, this authentic Czech Bakery was the first Kolache Shoppe in the Houston community. For over 60 years, we have been serving authentic fresh-baked Czech pastries and our original family recipes. From our traditional Fruit or Cream Kolaches to our savory Sausage Klobásníky, we also serve our famous Beef Fajita Croissants that got us voted #1 best Bakery in the nation by Yelp and featured on shows like The Cooking Channel and The Food Network. We also house-roast artisanal coffee under our specialty line: Zeppelin Coffee which includes our famous Nitro Cold Brew, Caramelized Nitro Peach Tea, Our Speciality Espresso Blend, and Single Origin Coffees. Coffee? Lattes? Frappuccino's? We got it fresh!

Holy cow do I love this place! Everything is so fresh, portion is generous. The best turnover Ive had in my life came from here. I'm an apple fan.
Service is kind and efficient. The place is small, not somewhere you want to sit down and eat. More like grab and go or a quick sit on the picnic bench out front.
Beef fajita and ham and cheese are a family favorite as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joe W.Houston, TX26089101Jan 22, 2024
Might be a good idea to have them cut it open before taking it home and having the wrong kolaches. For a first timer, not getting what I paid for is a complete let down. Shouldn't have to do that to trust that I'm getting what I'm ordering but.. you know.
I'll be back in a day or two to give a proper assessment of taste but as of now.. disappointment looms.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 20, 2024
We've been living on the east side for so long and somehow missed this gem in all that time ! Now we're here every weekend ! Everything about the experience here is great!
Parking:
The parking may be the only thing lacking. There are about 4 parking spots in front, and when we came early there was no problem. When we came later in the morning there was less and we had to park nearby. There is parking to find though
Food:
All the food is next level! We recommend the pastrami kolachi but everything is beyond delicious! Though they do run out of stuff because they're so busy, the are always making more. Even when we came at a busier time we were able to get quite a selection.
Because they have so much being made, everything is very fresh!
Also, their jalapeños aren't overly hot which was a bonus !
They do have tea and coffee beans from one place that I assume is local. They also sell bags of the beans.
Price:
The price is very fair and on par with similar places
Line:
There seems to be a wait no matter what. We cam a bit before 8am on a staurday and the line was much shorter. When we came at 11am on a Sunday it was long and out the door. Either way though it moves fast and they are clearly a well oiled machine with a good systemHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 19, 2023
Wow! Serious pastry game, best Kolache I've had since moving to Texas. A co-worker from Houston recommended this place and it was well worth the trek.
I love all things cherry, but the cherry Kolache was extra special. It's a must try and not commonly available at other Kolache shops. This place is authentic, the pastry is very much Czech style.
Place is a unstated, but sometimes these little holes in the wall have the best food.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 8, 2023
Small lot so may have trouble finding parking. Inside is small but the lines moves fast. Got the jalapeño cheese sausage kolache and a pumpkin latte.
Jalapeño cheese sausage kolache was sooo good. The jalapeños gave it a little kick, but too crazy. The dough was super pillowy.
Coffee was great! Not too sweet, would get again.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 3 - Apr 5, 20241 check-in
Finally got a chance to try this place after hearing so many rave reviews over the years. We dropped by on a Saturday morning around 8:45am, and there were only a couple people ahead of us. We all ordered the sausage cheese jalapeño klobasniky, and my husband also got a cherry turnover. The klobasniky baggies had a nice weight to them, so that was exciting. The pastry roll was amazing!!! It was so soft and slightly sweet (?). My husband and I thought the sausage itself was a disappointment though. I read it's supposed to be an authentic Czech sausage, but the quality was just not there for us. It looked like any fat hot dog sausage to us and the flavor was seriously lacking, especially for being in Texas. My mom liked it though, and I didn't see any reviews complaining about it, so maybe it's just us. The cherry turnover was a hit. I would want to go back to try a different flavor of klobasniky and kolaches. Ambiance itself is casual.

This is one of my several reviews for this place. It was 15 minutes to closing and I felt a little rushed when ordering but I understand that folks are ready to go. Roast beef kolache was a bit dry this time...maybe it didn't have cheese.

I ordered pastrami with jalapeños and roast beef with jalapeños kolaches. Theses are the best...especially the bread! I also had the petit lemon cream danishes which are delicious. Service was really good and on point. This is not your typical kolache place. You get a family feeling here and family is always welcome! Until the next time...
Nov 7, 2016Previous reviewThe kolaches are delicious and full of meat! Not the typical too much bread and not enough meat...almost could be considered a hot pocket. The pastrami w/ bacon, cheese and jalapeño was amazing! To top it off they have huge, homemade cinnamon rolls right out of the oven! Caution: Do Not Attempt to Eat Alone!

Excellent kolaches, including some combinations I've never seen elsewhere. Highly recommend!
