My wife and I wanted to meet another company from work. I scanned Yelp to find a place halfway between our cities, two $$, full bar and highly rated. Olive Restobar was at the top of the list. The pics and reviews looked good so we booked a reservation for last night.

It's in a big outdoor mall with several other restaurants so parking can be tricky when busy but we were lucky enough to grab a spot close by. The place is nicely decorated and dominated by a huge wall of liquor bottles in the bar. I'd say 80% of their tables are actually outside on their large covered patio. The place was packed so we were actually happy to have one of the few inside tables since it was pretty cold outside. They had lots of heaters but it still felt cold out there.

Service from Eloy was good all night. We started with some hummus (free with a Yelp check in) and cocktails. I'm a huge fan of Garrison Brothers bourbon and they featured many different varieties. Their liquor selection is very expansive and high end... some up to $600 per ounce. We were happy with the much more moderate Garrison served over a custom logo giant ice cube. The ladies enjoyed a couple of signature cocktails. Good hummus, big poofy hot bread and some grilled cauliflower. My lamb and kafte twin kabobs were delicious and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Another round of drinks and more bread and we were stuffed.

Highly recommend this place. Really good food and service.

Came here on a weekend for lunch with my bookclub gals. First off, the majority of the seating is outdoors. The day we went it was cold and super windy so even with headlamps, it was still very cold.

I checked in on Yelp to get the free hummus appetizer. Our waiter was pretty rude about it and kept demanding I show him I checked in even though I was showing him my phone. The hummus is cutely presented and had good flavor.

I ordered the sliders asking for the meat to be medium rare. The sliders came out with dry fully cooked meat patties. I'm well aware most restaurants can't manage medium rare meat patties, especially on sliders but well done dry patties are not acceptable. To add insult to injury, the patties were not seasoned at all and there was no sauce in the sliders. I had to ask for ketchup. I ended up slathering on the hummus, some of whatever the green dipping sauce for the bread and ketchup to get some flavor. Not to mention the one tiny piece of tomato and lettuce leaves.

Overall, this meal was disappointing all around and I'm so glad I opted to order an appetizer instead of a full dish. The regular sized dishes were all quite pricey. The rest of the food that came out for everyone else at the table looked ok but it was probably average as no one made comments about the food. This group usually would make comments if their food was good.

Got here 8:30 pm tonight with a date & got seated right away which was nice however it's 8:55 & still no one has came to give water or get order , however the table next over of a group of girls who got sat at like 8:45 already got waters & had their orders taken . Literally just had to get up & leave & walked over to get pizzas at mod as I was starving & can only imagine how long the food service would take knowing the customer service was more than horrible .

I have to start off by saying the service here is great. Our waiter who was also training someone was very attentive and making sure we had everything. We arrived right before the Sunday lunch crowd so we were able to pick our seat. Note that this is an open restaurant. Depending on the weather, it will be cold and windy.

We ordered the filet Mignon and eggs and the salmon avocado toast. If you check in on Yelp you also get a free humus plate. The food arrived fairly quickly but somehow my steak was already not that hot. It seems they made mine first and then made the others and brought everything once it was all done. My steak not being hot was why it lost a star. I could of said something and I'm sure it would of been fixed but I was really hungry lol.

They provide a salsa for the table that went perfect with the steak or the pita bread they provide you. I also had a latte and that was delicious. We will have to come back and try more of their offerings.

On a work trip I let my co-worker pick our dinner spot, and the Olive was her choice. The place is in an outdoor mall in Downey, and man the vibe was rockin'. We were greeted promptly, and taken to the patio.
Our server mentioned it was Happy Hour (3-7) so we ordered spicy Micheladas and a 2-for app platter (hummus and falafel). The hummus was rich and smooth while the falafel was crisp and flavorful.

We both ordered schwerma, she lamb and I beef, and both platter came with salad and either rice Pilaf or couscous.

In Downey, CA - oh goodness the food here was so good and the prices were reasonable! So glad I made a reservation on Yelp so we didn't have to wait as we saw a bunch of people waiting outside for a table. It was quite busy on a Saturday night. The service was not the fastest but still was reasonably prompt with friendly servers.

We were going to order the meat platter initially, but decided it's better to order a la carte to share so we could try a bit of everything! Don't forget to check in for a free hummus!

We got the hot mezza sampler, crispy cauliflower, beef shawarma, filet mignon, chicken cubes and shrimp. Except for the grape leaves, meatballs, cheese rolls and beef shawarma, everything else tasted amazing! I love their falafels - so so good. I wish I just ordered that alone instead of the sampler because that's the only thing we all liked from the assorted appetizers. Their chicken was flavorful and tender, with the garlic sauce that's worth the extra $2.50. The shrimp was well marinated and succulent. And my favorite was the filet mignon - so tender and juicy. Definitely get their couscous which went so well with everything.

We were seated outside next to a heater so it wasn't a problem even on a typical winter day in California.

It's a great place to go if you're in Downey!

We came here for lunch before our movie at the Downey Cinemark. It was pretty empty when we arrived which is great cuz this place can get very packed. There's outdoor and indoor seating. Very nice and clean place. Plenty of parking in the shopping plaza. There are so many restaurants and businesses in this big plaza.

We ordered The Olive Kabob Platter, Shakshukah, Mimosa Flight, Hummus, & Pita Bread. For the kabob platter, we got the filet mignon and kafta with garlic paste and rice. Both were really tasty and good. The shakshukah which is a Mediterranean breakfast was also very good. You get a free hummus when you check in on Yelp so that's a plus. The pita bread was perfect. Mimosas were on point and you can definitely taste the alcohol. We were so full from all the food that there's no room in our tummies for any desserts. Definitely coming back here to try their other items. Overall, a very enjoyable meal and service was excellent. Our server was extra attentive and super friendly.
