l can be somewhat nerdy, and I really do enjoy places like this. Time capsules of an era gone by. I have been to many of "the oldest" restaurants, cafes, or pubs in a city, country and even the world. At times it has been been the history and location first, then the food comes second.
Opened in 1913, Pioneer Saloon is the oldest bar in southern Nevada, and is not far from the edges of Henderson. It is also a Nevada Historical Landmark with much of its interior being original; including the rustic wall and ceiling stamped tin from the old Sears and Roebuck, and the beautiful cherry wood bar that was sent from Maine.
Along the walls of the Pioneer Saloon are interesting marks of its long past. There are three bullet holes from a card game gone wrong in 1915, which are located by the side door. As well as a Carole Lombard and Clark Gable Memorial Wall, which pays tribute to one of Hollywood's legends who was killed in a pane crash not to far from Good Springs in 1942. Pioneer Saloon was the headquarters for the recovery search and where Clark Gabel, who was her husband at the time, drove to after hearing the news.
Now for the food- the food at Pioneer Saloon is road food but with a twist here and there. There is barbecue on the menu, bar food, burgers and sandwiches. There are also Saint Louis, MO food items that we appreciated since we lived in Missouri for ten years.
We ordered the STL pizza with provel cheese and the Gooey Butter Cake, which was invented in Saint Louis, if you did not know that! Of the two, I recommend the Gooey Butter Cake, as it definitely had a homemade taste. We enjoyed it so much, we ordered one more to go.
I also enjoyed my burger because it was something different, the High blue cactus burger! I have never eaten cactus before, I do not think, and never on a burger with blue cheese cream. The cactus did not have a huge flavor to it, and was more texture than taste. It was similar to a firmer squash or like a large bell pepper in texture, not taste. I liked it!
Pioneer Saloon is certainly a place with history and a lot of character, plus good road food burgers.Helpful 11Thanks 1Love this 5Oh no 0 - Dec 4, 2023
I love Pioneer for the live music and drinks but as far as service and food save yourself the money. As someone who frequents often...if I was a waitress out there I would be killing it...clearly the waitress doesn't want money or tips. We went to the bar 3 separate times to get drinks because the waitress was so slow with food. She could make so much more money if she would put in effort...food came out cold!
Don't expect much of anything from the waitress...clearly she doesn't want to make money!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 2 - Apr 1, 20241 check-in
This is seriously one of the coolest spots just outside of the Vegas area! Been here like 100 plus years! It's so cool here! Bar,live bands and some pretty righteous Barbecue!
This is a popular spot with motorcycle clubs and off roaders as well as tourists and locals who know! In Good Springs everyday is a great day! The staff is quirky, colorful and great fun! The bands are really good! The merch shop has all your souvenirs and the food is Amazing!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 22, 2024
On our way back from Vegas, I wanted to take the 5 mile detour and check this place out. It's a small town that was developed due to mining. And the saloon was started in 1913. Walking in its dark wood, which lends to darker lighting. They cook outside. It's warmed really well by a wood stove. There are still bullet holes from the Wild West times. Servers are friendly. We shared the poltergeist burger. It was good and definitely spicy.
Not sure if I'll take the detour again to come here.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dianna G.Mission Viejo, CA11117349Apr 11, 2024
We stopped by here to eat after our ATV tour since it was recommended by our tour guide. It's such a unique place with so much history and its worth checking out. It's an establishment that has been around since the early 1900s and it's never closed down through wars, gold rush, pandemics. The bbq sandwich and the green beans were delicious. The cole slaw, however, needs to be revised. I didn't even find it edible. We will come back when we are in the area again.

We arrived for lunch. The place was full due to a senior band playing. We had to go outside to dirty tables and no heat. When the service came We ordered some waters and hot chocolate because it is so cold out. While waiting for the drinks it started to snow. One of the waters came back in a dirty cup. My sandwich BLT was cold. Overall nice place to see outcome with low expectations

Ok, so I'm not from Las Vegas, but I loved Fallout New Vegas. I had no idea that Goodsprings and the Pioneer Saloon were real. They sure are. Wow, what a neat place to visit. The food was well better than either of us anticipated, and the drinks stood up as well. For a place featured both in Fallout and Zac Baggan's Ghost Adventures, it was so fun to see in real life. There are so few of these old time venues still open. I take no issue with them having "cash grab" merch, or living off their reputation. These people are just trying to make a living, and I was more than over the moon to get to experience a legitimate pioneer bar. To think of everything that has occurred within those four walls boggles the mind. Check out the Pioneer Saloon. So cool.

Fun historical stop in the tiny town of Goodsprings, NV. They offer up burgers with fun names and toppings, bbq and pizza. We sat on the outside patio on a chilly winter afternoon, our dog was with us. They had heat lamps, with picnic benches and assisted tables. My neice and I shared a gouda burger and patty melt The burger was tasty with a yummy bacon jam. I thought it would have lettuce on it, that would have bulked it up a bit. A fun historical stop. My brother goes occasionally as he lives in the area. He says they have great bands on the weekends.

Ambiance: if you like old Western movies and are a fan of Clark Gable, then ambiance would probably be 5/5 for you. They had a lot of interesting things inside, like ancient cash registers and interesting, framed photos on the wall.
Food: I'll preface this by saying we went as a large group as part of a corporate off-road driving event, so maybe our experience with the food would be different if we sat there and ordered fresh made food... but talking to others in our group, including the hosts of the event, the food was a 1/5.
Actually, the brisket was OK , so I could give the brisket & bbq sauce a higher rating... but the other food...
I don't like writing bad reviews for small, privately owned businesses, but damn. They served us cold hard chicken drumsticks that looked like they were flame grilled a few days before we got there.
One of the guys that works for the company that hosted the event told me they had cold, hard chicken the day before we got there, and he was extremely disappointed. Sure enough, the same cold hard chicken showed up on the day we were there (maybe leftovers from the previous day?). It was really, really bad. It was like roadkill or something that they picked up off the side of the freeway.
The potato salad was pretty good.
They had pieces of bread that I thought were going to be like buttery Texas toast, but they were just pieces of cold, hard bread that we're probably toasted and then refrigerated or something. Pretty bad.
The drinks were all served in pitchers... watered down Diet Pepsi it seemed like more water than Pepsi.
If you ever drive out to this area, definitely stop by Pioneer saloon to grab a beer or take some pictures. But don't expect good food. That chicken was gross enough to make the heartiest meat lover go vegan.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0
